The Dale Inskeep Band

BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

We have coined our music “original surf- country". It is Americana meets the Pacific North West. We are influenced by the great song writers of Texas.

Biography

I've been playing music since I started playing the violin in the 4th grade. Living on the Southern Oregon Coast and spending a lot of time surfing provides me a connection with the ocean. I've also been influenced by the great Texas songwriters including Townes Van Zandt, Robert Earl Keen, Willis Alan Ramsey, Lyle Lovett and many more. We play every Thursday night at a great little restaurant in Charleston, Oregon called the High Tide Cafe. We so much appreciate the nice crowd we have year round on Thursday nights. We also play most of our other gigs for benefits around the Southern Oregon Coastal area. I've got great guys who play in my band with me and we've been together for some time now. The album "Three Hands on the Wheel" was recorded live in the studio, The Congress House, in Austin, Texas so it's a great representation of what we sound like live. Music will always be a big part of my life, along with my family, being a middle school principal, spending time in the ocean, and baseball. Enjoy

Gonna Take A Holiday

Written By: Dale Inskeep

Gonna Take A Holiday

I’ve got no watch, but still the time
is heavy on my mind
The calendar fills up so fast
I’m getting in a bind

Gonna take a holiday
Gonna take a holiday
Gonna take a holiday
It’s gonna last more than a day

Well I don’t dare turn the TV on
You’ll find all the bad news
Watch it for a little while
and then you’ll have the blues

CHORUS

Cell phone’s ringing yet again
Emails clog my brain
Just wanna sit without a schedule
and listen to the rain

CHORUS

Make my list to organize
but I don’t get too far
Instead I think I’ll mix a drink
and play on my guitar

CHORUS

I know the winds are steady now
South swell even lines
Gonna take a trip, have a holiday
with palm trees instead of pines

CHORUS

I'm Home

Written By: Dale Inskeep

I’m Home

The fog disappears as the sun is setting down
Sitting on the sand, outside of Charlie Town
Campfire, friends and family hanging ‘round

Taking in the night, sharing up the sky
watching the full moon, huckleberry pie
Steal the time as I look into your eye(s)

Home is here when you’re with me
You warm my heart and help me see
Home is here when I’m with you
After all the years, the love’s still new
Home is here with Family
Just let it ride, Just let it be
Home is here with you my friend
The fire cracks...in the wind
Home, Home, I’m Home
Home, Home, I’m Home

Looking out, over the slough
standing on the deck, taking in the view
I...so love my time with you

Wandering inside, dog is on the floor
Kids are coming in and forgot to close the door
Laughing through the smiles that they wore

Chorus

Hanging out a lot, you called me on the phone
If I ever needed, you’d give me a loan
pushing one another...in the zone

We haven’t talked for months, but it seems like just a day
Friendship’s cutting through as the sun sets on the bay
I know what you are thinking when you have nothing to say

Chorus
...I’m home.

I'm So Tired of the Cold

Written By: Dale Inskeep

Tired of the Cold

I’m so tired of the cold, I need a sunny day
I refuse to get old, years fly away
I can’t feel the pain, down to my bones
I’m so tired of the cold, I’ll just stay home

I want to play in the sun and walk in the water and get myself a tan
Instead the skies are grey, there’s freezing rain and the snow, it falls out on the sand
I know there are four seasons but I think this year that we forgot about spring
Make a fire, play guitar, hang around the kids and the lady I gave a ring

Chorus

I want to walk barefoot outside and have the ground convince my feet that it’s all good
Meanwhile we’ll stoke the fire, make it hot, and keep on splitting wood
The weather forecast says again that tomorrow morning the driveway’s going to freeze
I know we’ll be singing this song in the summer with sweat running down and wishing for a breeze

Chorus

More Teguila

Written By: Dale Inskeep

More Tequila

Anejo in my glass, disappears too fast
That hand-blown bottle was never meant to last
It’s a little bit blurred, but I know we had a blast
In the morning I don’t wanna hear I got too Nast-Y

Take a shot, with some salt and lime
Have another, just one more time
Don’t worry much about it, it ain’t no crime
More tequila and we’ll stay within our prime

You called me a Smart Alek, but that’s not true
You called me a Smart Ass, Yeah, That’s what I heard from you
When I woke up in the morning you said my right eye was black and blue
A little wrestling match last night, now that’s nothing new

CHORUS

I’ve had my shots down in Mexico
Tijuana, Ensenada, but mostly Cabo
I’ve heard the horror stories, they’re all hyped up for the show
I don’t believe the fallacy, “Gringos shouldn’t go”

CHORUS

Dream Everytime

Written By: Dale Inskeep

Dream Everytime

I believe in Music
I believe in life
I believe in happiness
When I close my eyes

The baby cries, tears in his eyes
As he tries to walk across the floor
Tell the truth, no more lies
As he tries to keep from walking out that door

Dream Everytime
Dream Everytime
Dream Everytime…you sleep

I believe in yesterday
I believe in smiles
I believe in sunsets
Sometimes it takes a while

Old man cries, tears in his eyes
As he tries to walk across the floor
Tell the truth, no more lies
As he tries to keep from walking out that door

Dream Everytime
Dream Everytime
Dream Everytime…you sleep

Repeat

Come On Down

Written By: Dale Inskeep

You left a long long time ago
But it seems like yesterday
Every now and then, the memories start to show
And it brightens up my day.

Won't you come on down
Won't you come on down
Friends and neighbors are waiting, they want to see you hanging around
Won't you come on down

I always knew it would be a long, long time
Since I looked you in the eye
I didn't know just how long it would be
Since I waved good-bye.

Won't you come on down
Won't you come on down
Friends and neighbors are waiting, they want to see you hanging around
Won't you come on down

Your cruising along that lonesome old highway
A breeze with the window down
Finding yet another stranger to talk to
In another stranger town.

Won't you come on down
Won't you come on down
Friends and neighbors are waiting, they want to see you hanging around
Won't you come on down

Without a bit of warning, I get a call from you
Your voice is such a warming sound
Then you say your just a couple minutes away
And you'll be coming on down.

Won't you come on down
Won't you come on down
Friends and neighbors are waiting, they want to see you hanging around
Won't you come on down.© 2010 Dale Inskeep

A Chill in the Air Tonight

Written By: Dale Inskeep

A Chill In The Air Tonight

We try and stretch the weather but the summer’s passed
Supper comes around and the daylight doesn’t last
Out on the bay is a single boat mast
Sun sinks on the water so fast

Frost shimmers in the candlelight
A sliver moon wanes up to height
The cedar silhouettes against the stars so bright
There’s a chill in the air tonight
There’s a chill in the air tonight

Pacific Standard Time, Clocks fall back an hour
The weather see’s more than the occasional shower
Petals all fall off the dandelion flower
The jetstream comes along to share its power

Chorus

Steal away the warmth from the campfire in the sand
Keep the fire stoked, the chill makes the demand
Saltwater steam rushes out away from land
The cold runs through my hand

Chorus

I Don't Wanna Leave

Written By: Dale Inskeep

I Don’t Want To Leave

I don’t want to leave, but I guess I’d better go
I don’t want to leave, but I guess I’d better go
I don’t want to leave, but I guess I’d better go
I don’t want to leave, but I guess I’d better go

Stubborness...Creeps in through the walls
Looking down...Slipery waterfalls
Listening...As wild passion calls
Wondering...Why I walk down these dark halls

Chorus

Dreaming...As I’m flying through the sky
Gliding...As the waves go passing by
Resting...As I think and wonder why
Leaving...It makes me want to cry

Chorus

Coming ‘Round...Then I feel you want to go
Judging me...’Cause you think I ought to know
Alchemy...And I’m smack-down in the flow
Leaving...I guess I’d better go

Chorus

Smile and Pretend

Written By: Dale Inskeep

Smile And Pretend

Smile and pretend, that you know the time
Smile and pretend, that you liked their wine
Smile and pretend, that you’re in the know
Smile and pretend, that you shouldn’t go

Smile and Pretend
Smile and Pretend
Smile and Pretend
Smile and Pretend

I didn’t know what you had said
I saw your face was turning red
I thought I’d better start to smile and pretend
I didn’t have a clue what you were thinkin’

Chorus

You call us all together
The time is closing in
Keep faking that you like it
You just smile and pretend

Chorus

The sun is falling quickly
I’ve got this package to send
I’m standing in a long line
So I just smile and pretend

Chorus

Fire

Written By: Dale Inskeep

FIRE

I sit beside the old Douglas tree
Fire’s burning next to me
A cold wind is blowing, cant you see
Fire’s burning next to me

Fire I know
Fire I want
Fire to show me the way...
Back to the night

Yelling after me, I know my baby
I want to hold you next to me
I’m burning hot as fire, now can’t you see
I want to hold you next to me
Chorus
Darkness overwhelms the night
My fire keeps you within sight
Strike a match, light a candle, burn so bright
My fire keeps you within sight
Chorus
With the light you and me are on our way
Burn the fire calmly ‘till we reach the day
Like heat on flame with me you’ll always stay
Burn the fire calmly ‘till we reach the day (x3)>
Chorus
Chorus
Chorus

Set List

At our regular gig on Thursday nights, we play a two or two and a half hour set. IF we play a cover song, it is almost always a Robert Earl Keen song.
