Biography

The Damsels

Rachel Hall - Lead Vocals & Electric Guitar
Timmy P - Drums & Bongos
Sabrina - Lead vocals, 12 String Acoustic & Bass

"New bands are born everyday in the world of rock music, and some births are more serendipitous than others. Such is the case with The Damsels" - Rahne Alexander, Baltimore Gay Life.

The Damsels have been described as indie/folk rock/roots music, but don't let that fool you. The Damsels are one of those rare acts that comes along and defies tradition by refusing to be categorized and pigeon held.

The Baltimore based trio, consisting of Sabrina (lead vocals, 12 string acoustic guitar, bass), Rachel Hall (lead vocals, lead guitar) and Timmy P (drums, percussion) are known for their passionate vocals, irresistable melodies and driving backbeat.

The band has been playing an eclectic mix of covers and originals for the past three years. Since forming the band in 2003, they have shared the stage and performed with national recording artists, Melissa Ferrick, Sonia (Disappear Fear), LP, The Beltways and Ed Neenan (360 Loose).

The formation of the band has brought together influnces from Melissa Etheridge to Susan Tedeschi, Janis Joplin, Indigo Girls, The Pretenders, Sheryl Crow, Tracy Chapman and Bonnie Raitt to classic 70's rock. This influence along with the band's own eclectic sound is the basis of their first full-length release, "Ashes".

With their debut release, the band is focusing their attention on the future. "We've been playing bars in Baltimore for a long time, and I'd like to expand into the Philly and DC markets," says singer/guitarist Sabrina. "We really want to promote the CD and stay focused on making great music."

Lyrics

Ashes

Written By: Rachel Hall

You fell into the ashes of my flame that burned for someone else
You got all dirty
And now I have to put you on a shelf
Shoulda known better than to mess around with girls like me
I am a teaser
Love you until I'm ready to set you free

I don't mean to Oh no no no no no
Ashes ashes all around

Up on that shelf there
The dust and dust to dust is getting thick
One day I decided to spit shine you up all over again
Then you fell into a pile of ashes left from the time before
We can't get clean now
Dirty and dusty all stuck to our skin

I didn't mean to Oh no no no no no
Ashes ashes all around

Dangerous Curves

Written By: Sabrina

Not supposed to be this way
Not suppose to be this hard
Been down this road before
But I never get too far

1 and 1 and 1 is three
You think I’d learn to count
But I’m the new one in this game
I’ll be the one goin down

Can I make my heart see around those dangerous curves
I think it’s just killing me that I’ll never learn

Chorus -
You see with your head and not your heart or your dreams
You think with your mind not your feelings
Your heart will make a wrong turn
And it will get you burned
You see with your head and not your heart

Knew what I was getting into
Right from the start
Caution lights were flashing
There were neon signs in the dark

You should be able to put some reins on your heart
Keep yourself in check At least be smart

(Chorus)

The Crying Tree

Written By: Rachel Hall

You say you miss me
But you're not around
You say you're sorry
But you're still tied down
I can't recall just how I let me go
The way I'm feeling isn't supposed to show

Chorus -
I cried underneath the tree
You said you were the best of me

Once upon a distant dream I slept
Gazed into the deep and then it slipped
Reckless breathing and a tightened chest
We're connected like the wave and crest

(Chorus)

Baby you and me should leave it as it be
Won't you tell me what you see when you look at me
Don't give up the fight doing what is right
In the middle of the night
Won't you tell it'll be alright

(Chorus)

You Wanna

Written By: Sabrina

You wanna find in him what you can’t see with me
You wanna play it safe hide from reality
You wanna walk away and never look back
You wanna have me close and not feel the slack

Chorus -
You can’t fight it
You can’t see
You can’t turn your back
You can’t walk away from me
You can’t fight it
You can’t hide
You can’t run away you can’t tuck it deep inside
You can’t stay away
But you wanna

We have tried all before
Thought it just a phase
Kept our distance and hoped it go away
Now it’s back and it’s stronger than before
This thing between us makes us just long for more

(Chorus)

C7

Written By: Rachel Hall

Chorus -
Roll, Roll on
Oh Roll, Roll on
When that clock starts tickin' you know it's time to
Roll on

Well seven days I'm rollin'
Rollin' right through the week
Twenty-four seven honey
Roll right through the week
When Sunday comes I'm so tired I can't hardly speak

(Chorus)

Now roll to the East
Roll it right to the West
Oh roll it to the East
Roll right back to the West
Well I roll it to the man I know will treat me the best

(Chorus)

Oblivious

Written By: Rachel Hall

You don't know how bad
how bad it hurts to see
you two together

And I hope if you
you are with her she will treat
you worse than ever

And one day you'll see
see what I'm worth and you'll know
that I am better

If you lose me
I hope you know once I'm gone
it will be forever

When I walked into the party that night and I saw you there with her
My heart just sank down to my feet.
But on second thought I've seen this coming for a long time
And you know what's really sad?
You think she's something so special
And she's just playing you for a fool.
And you think that I'm completely oblivious.
