ABOUT US

Jan Flexon and Carol Cody met the summer of 2001 during the National Women’s Music Festival. Although involved with other bands at the time they stayed connected as their paths crossed time after time at many different music venues. Soon they were jamming as Jan, on guitar and vocals; was writing endlessly, and Carol on drums and the bass. Soon a common bond was formed merging the style of music and the songs Jan was writing and they began booking gigs while enlisting several different musicians to perform with them. The name, The Dancin’ Nancys, was conceived at their first gig when a group inspired by the music started dancing around them. Two of the women dancing were named Nancy and the band was born. The Nancys describe their music as Folk Pop Rock mixed with a touch of the Blues.

Over the years the musicians have changed, but Carol and Jan remain committed to creating original music. Jan is a Native American from the mountains of Virginia where she grew up listening to Bluegrass and Native American music. Later influenced by Folk, Rock, R&B and the Blues, she now creates a seamless blending of these diverse styles in her songwriting and arrangement of instruments. Jan’s vocals are deep and passionate, opening her heart to take the listener on an uncharted journey.

The current “Nancys” are Jan Flexon on vocals and guitar; Julie Harrison (Dr. J) on bass and backing vocals, and Carol Cody on drums and backing vocals. Julie joined the band about a year ago adding a key ingredient to create the original sound they were seeking. At the end of each show, there is an interactive drumming session where drums and other percussion instruments are passed out to the audience inviting them to join in.
