Lyrics

Scared Sentimental

Written By: Susan Picard

It doesn't matter how many lovers you've had,
How many nights you spent waiting for the one you wanted so bad,
Doesn't matter who set your heart beating,
Or if disappointment, had you retreating,
Doesn't matter if you've hurt, been hurt and bleeding,
Something inside has you wanting and needing,
Someone to hold you, someone who might make you feel real.

Don't let a minute skirt around and pass by you,
That you don't share a smile with the one that's beside,
Mother, father, sister, brother, my friend, my lover...I'm here.
I've been scared sentimental by visions of hallways,
Where love waits beyond all the unopened doorways,
And I wait, afraid to knock, in case it all disappears.

It doesn't matter how many rivers you've crossed,
How much time you've spent looking for the one thing you thought you lost,
Doesn't matter if you came first in the race,
Or if you you had trouble just keeping the pace,
Doesn't matter if you're there on the brink of succeeding,
There's something inside that has you wanting and needing,
Someone who'll hold you, someone who'll make you feel real.

Don't let a minute skirt around and pass by you,
That you don't share a smile with the one who is beside you,
Oh mother, father, sister, brother, my friend, my lover...I'm here,
I've been scared sentimental by visions of hallways,
Where love waits beyond all those unopened doorways,
And I wait, afraid to knock, in case it all disappears.

Scared sentimental...visions of hallways,
Scared sentimental...unopened doorways,
Scared sentimental, scared it might all disappear.

I Don't Wanna Fall Asleep

Written By: Susan Picard

Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are?
Up above the world so high (a missle defense shield)
Like a diamond in the sky (could protect us)
Twinkle twinkle little star (from rogue states)
How I wonder what you are? (States like these)

I don't wanna fall asleep (and their terrorist allies)
I don't wanna fall asleep
I don't wanna fall asleep (constitute)
Underneath your blanket of fear (an axis of evil).

What if there's no enemy
Just other people like you and me
Trying to get what they need
To take care of their families?
What if there's no second chance
No heaven to complete the dance
No place where we can justify
Why so many had to die?
And what if I'm afraid to dream
On stars that are not what they seem
Heavenly bodies that used to guide us
Through a darkness that no longer hides us?

I don't wanna fall asleep
I don't wanna fall asleep
I don't wanna fall asleep (we are fighting)
Underneath your blanket of fear (a war on terror)

The only place that fear can lead me
Is away from those who really need me
To take a stand, make a choice
Share my wealth and share my voice.
How is it we really know
Who is friend and who is foe
Until we are vulnerable?

I don't wanna fall asleep
I don't wanna fall asleep
I don't wanna fall asleep
Underneath your blanket of fear.

Twinkle twinkle little star
How I wonder what you are?

She's Got

Written By: Susan Picard

She's got colours like a thriftstore window full of your old clothes and
She's got choices like the coffeeshop where she drinks small nations and
She's got words that she can fit together to make vinyl portraits
She's got moments to remember on the back porch laughing with a friend.

She's got jewels from the crown prince of semi-precious sidewalks and
She's got shoes to take her dancing up the mountains of her dreams.
She's got trust in things that she can't always understand and
She's got time to think and time to come up with a brand new plan.

And she is what she is how feels how she lives how she cuts and she bleeds she gives and she needs
She will laugh she will cry she will live she will die
And she'll take what she's got and she'll give you a lot.

She's got determination she won't fall down on the wayside of life and
She's got anticipation of someone's mother, someone's wife and
She's got trepidation of colours fading into black and white and
She's got interpretations of the way things are and the way things still might be...

And she is what she is how she feels how she lives how she cuts and she bleeds, she gives and she needs
She will laugh, she will cry, she will live and she'll die
And she'll take what she's got and she'll give you a lot.

This Town

Written By: Susan Picard

I always dreamed of singing in New York or LA
Thought at least that I might make Toronto some day
But each time that that dream was about to take wing
Something always brought me back down to earth again

Maybe it's my family and knowing that they're there
Maybe it's my friends and all the good times that we share
They say that to be someone you have to leave this town
Even if you care enough to wanna stick around

But I need this town more than I need MTV
All that bumping and grinding would be the death of me
I don't need your paparazzi, you can keep your bling
Cause there's so many reasons why I need this town to sing

And I see this town changing every single day
Feeding this need that comes from far away
We're selling off our resources to buy up way more stuff
With no sense at all when we will ever have enough

There are stories that this town needs to hear about itself
Instead of thinking all the answers are gonna come from someplace else
We're the last place to stand against the sinking sucking greed
That will poison all our water and devour our last tree

And this town needs me more than they do on MTV
All the pumping and drilling will be our death you see
They're sucking up the future and then flashing us with bling
There are so many reasons why this town needs me to sing
So many reasons why I need this town to sing

Cause this town needs me more than they do on MTV
All the pumping and drilling will be our death you see
They're sucking up our future and flashing us with bling
So many reasons why this town needs me to sing
So many reasons why this town needs me to sing
So many reasons why I need this town to sing

Everywhere I Go

Written By: Susan Picard

It's hard to know exactly where I end and you begin,
I try to focus on each breath and let that light enter in,
there's an ebb and flow between us, sometimes we give, sometimes we take,
and in the pushing and the pulling, there's this magic we create.

Reaching in I find your spirit, reaching out I touch my heart,
I should have known in all this chaos we never really came apart,
It's the comings and the goings,
That sometimes make me feel alone,
But I'm learning how to find you,
Everywhere that I go.

I've been searching for a language to describe your loving touch,
The truths that leave me shattered and the joys that lift me up,
But nothing I've discovered can transcend all those divides,
But I've learned that half the fun in life is just giving it a try.

Reaching in I find your spirit, reaching out, I touch my heart
I should have known in all this chaos, we never really came apart,
It's the comings and the goings that sometimes make me feel alone,
But I'm learning how to find you,
Everywhere that I go

Reaching in...still your body until the only thing that's moving is your breath. Focus on that breath.

Reaching out...know that that breath connects you to every other person and every other living thing on the planet.

It's hard to know exactly where I end and you begin,
I try to focus on each breath and let that light enter in...
