THE DEADWAX COLLECTIVE

Jeff Woods, Jay Dickie, Josh Fulford and Ray Boulay are Deadwax Collective, a hard rock mash up with hooky grooves and melodic ear-worms eating your brain.

Although the name The Deadwax Collective is new to the west coast music scene, 3/4 of its members have a history in B.C’s Lower Mainland.

Jeff, (drums), Jay, (bass) and Josh (guitar) are formerly of Koark, a no nonsense, in your face, balls-to-the-walls, new-metal ensemble that rocked and melted the faces off mainland fans with adrenaline-fueled shows. With two albums under their belts "Incontinent" and “Better Than Yesterday” Koark, was chosen over 68 local bands to represent Vancouver in the North American-wide Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands and shared the bill with Flybanger, God Awakens Petrified, Noise Therapy and Gob. Koark was also one of only two local bands to get a spot on the Vans Warped Tour, opening for Suicidal Tendencies and Sevendust. Unfortunately Koark cited creative differences that wedged the band in opposite directions resulting in their split up.

With Koark-days in the past and new days ahead the 3 J’s, looked hard to find a vocalist to complete their ensemble. Playing and writing under other monikers, the former Koark boys received an email…Enter stage left; Ray Boulay. “God bless Craigslist”, says Ray
a Singer/Songwriter freshly transplanted in Vancouver from Toronto, “I had moved out here to try something new and to get out of the Big Smoke”. Skimming through Craigslist, Ray answered a posting for a group called ‘Throater’. Intrigued Ray answered the posting feeling he had something to offer.

Ray’s musical history draws back almost 10 years fronting his own band in Toronto and releasing two albums, ‘Rockstar;48’ and ‘INTAKE’. Ray has been a student of the Arts having studied classical voice, dance and theatre; which allow him the skills to work a stage like a pro. A Rocker at heart, Ray thrives on kicking out the jams in any genera, especially with DWC. Being with DWC gives Ray the opportunity to explore different aspects of his voice from screaming to serenity. A nice break from the folky stuff he plays on his own.

Now with two power -house entities together the show and music can only get better.
No silence here - sonic information will be re-written as The Deadwax Collective.

The Deadwax Collective’s debut album “Lighting In a Bottle” is set for release July 1, 2010.
