"The Dealers Interview/Band Profile"

“The great thing about music is it’s your own personal thing,” said local musician Ryan Anderson, from Orlando rock band The Dealers, in a recent email interview. “It hits everyone differently. I just hope that our music hits people in some sort of positive way to help get them through their day.”

All the band members credited Nirvana with being a big influence. “There was a certain mystery surrounding Kurt Cobain and his music that was always interesting to me,” said Anderson. “Then came The Strokes when I was 17 and I thought they were just great, like the perfect rock band.”

One specific musician/songwriter Anderson admires is Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkeys. “The guy has a style and originality that most guys in this music game wish they had. He’s also an incredible lyricist. You think to yourself sometimes ‘how the hell did he write that?’”

For The Dealers, Anderson writes most of the music and all of the lyrics. His lyrical inspiration generally strays to only one subject. “Usually I’ll start out with a riff on the acoustic and we finish together in rehearsal throwing ideas around and stuff. As far as lyrics, I guess it could be anything really. I seem to always come back to the discussion of love somehow. Sometimes I purposely try and not but it seems to be the natural tendency.”

In April, the band is heading to Nashville to record more songs for their upcoming CD. “When I was a little kid my father used to manage country bands around Nashville so I kind of grew up around music,” said Anderson. “At the time of this I was about eight or nine years old and hung around this studio in Nashville called Switchyard studios run by Michael St. Leon. The man just has a great ear and knack for music. I trust him with the songs and know that he’s going to try and make them as good as possible. I guess it’s kind of a personal thing.”

As far as what sets The Dealers apart from other bands, they joke that it’s because they are on time and wake up before noon. The local Orlando rock band has an EP, “Logical Emotion,” available for streaming or downloading on Bandcamp and they have a music video that’s in the final stages of production. Music fans can check out the band on Facebook, You Tube, Reverbnation and Twitter. - Kat Coffin
