Bio

The Deep North is a female-fronted indie rock band from Boston, MA. Though guitarist Nick Twohig had intended to start a studio project with former bandmates, The Deep North gradually transitioned into a new band with the addition of bassist Dan Nakhoul, vocalist Rebecca Frank and drummer Nick Angelo in early 2012.

The Deep North EP was released in November 2012 and quickly garnered praise from music critics on both a local and national scale. Alternative Press magazine featured the band in their AP&R section of the "Most Anticipated Music of 2013" issue, where they were compared to Death Cab For Cutie, Eisley, and The Hush Sound. The Deep North was also included in the Boston Phoenix "Class of 2013" feature as one of the city's best new bands in January 2013. In early 2013, the band was invited to participate in Americas longest-running Battle of the Bands, Bostons Rock n Roll Rumble.

The Deep North utilized their growing fan base to help fund their sophomore record, raising over $5,000 via Indiegogo.com. They recorded the seven-song album during a two-week residence at Rocking Horse Studio, located on the property of a 17th century farm house in rural Pittsfield, New Hampshire. The result is Sound & Light, an album that not only embraces the melodic hooks of their first EP, but also explores darker, more vulnerable tones. The album's first single, Voices, was released in August 2013, with the full record released digitally and on 12" limited-edition vinyl in the fall.  Most recently, The Deep North was one of the first bands selected to record at the Boston Converse Rubber Tracks studio.
