Biography

The Deep River Quartet
Masters of Soul, Jazz, Blues & Gospel’

Four men, four personalities, four unique voices, always looking for a perfect harmony. Interpreters of classical modern music (Classic Urban Harmony), that's The Deep River Quartet. The repertoire is wide: gospel, swing, soul, blues, ballads, jazz and even a little pinch of opera.

The group was founded in 1971 by bass-singer Sybrandus Finck and from the first day on a remarkable appeareance.

With a repertoire of negro-spirituals and gospels - the roots of popular music - the group took the podia of the main song contests by storm. Following the tradition of predecessors like The Golden Gate Quartet, The Ink Spots, The Mills Brothers and The Delta Rhythm Boys, The Deep River Quartet has developed the original swing into a world repertoire with splendid interpretations.

The Deep River Quartet amply earned its spurs with its phenomenal, charming rendition of jazz, blues and gospel, but over the years the group has also explored other avenues in music. The repertoire has been enriched for instance with surprising arrangements of pieces from both pop music and the classical genre. However, The Deep River Quartet has never renounced its roots and the male quartet sings the rawest of gospels and the most beautiful spirituals with ever increasing flexibility and finesse, supported by a first-rate trio on piano, bass and drums.

Moving ballads, fast rhythm & blues and blistering soul are presented during compelling performances in the face of which audiences find it impossible to conceal their enthusiasm! Tours around Europe and elsewhere have matured The Deep River Quartet's international power of expression. With its infectious programme the group captures the hearts of its public world-wide.
They are recording artists since 1973.

Goodbye Baby (Baby Goodbye)

Written By: Russel/Farrell

Goodbye baby, so long girl.
I know you ain't gonna like it,
But I'm stepping right out in your world
For I'm coming to your party
And I won't be able to stay,
But I'm gonna kiss you one more time, Lord,
Then I'm going away.
Goodbye baby hmm, baby goodbye hmm.

You may be lonely, yeah, you may be hurt,
Like a fool I gave you candy,
You turned around and treated me like dirt.
But still I'm gonna come to your party
And just before the break of day
I'm gonna touch you one more time, Lord,
Then I'm going away.
Sing it to me again
Goodbye baby hmm ha, baby goodbye.

Look out, what you see ?
I see a train a-coming,
A train a-coming down the long lonesome track.
I'll tell you, girl, I gotta go on home now,
But deep down in your heart
You know that someday I'm, I'm coming back
And I'm gonna look for you at your party,
'Cause all the time I know that I'll find you there
And listen, I'm gonna dance with you
One more time, oh yeah.
Sing it to me tonight now
Goodbye baby, sing it sweet baby goodbye.

Lord, you're singing so sweet tonight Goodbye baby
Goodbye baby baby baby baby goodbye
I'll see you around sometime, Lord Goodbye baby...

A Change Is Gonna Come

Written By: Sam Cooke

I was born by the river
In a little tent
Oh
And just like the river I been a running ever since
It's been a long
A long time coming but I know a change gon' come
Oh
Yes it will

It's been too hard living but I'm afraid to die
'Cause I don't know what's up there beyond the sky
It's been a long
A long time coming but I know a change gon' come
Oh
Yes it will

I go to the movie and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me, "Don't hang around"
It's been a long
A long time coming but I know a change gon' come
Oh
Yes it will

Then I go to my brother and I say, "Brother help me please"
But he winds up knocking me back down on my knees
Oh

There've been times that I thought I couldn't last for long
Now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long
A long time coming but I know a change gon' come
Oh
Yes it will

Little Sister

Written By: Mort Shuman/Doc Pomus

Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you kiss me once or twice
Then say it's very nice
And then you run

Little sister dont you do what your big sister does
Well, I dated your big sister
And took her to a show
I went for some candy
Along came Jim Dandy
And they snuck right out of the door

Ev'ry time I see your sister
Well she's got somebody new
She's mean and she's evil
Like that old Boll Weevil
Guess I'll try my luck with you

Well, I used to pull your pigtails
And pinch your turned-up nose
But you been a growin'
And baby, it's been showin'
From your head down to your toes

Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you
Little sister, don't you kiss me once or twice
Then say it's very nice
And then you run

Little sister, don't you
Do what your big sister done

Into Each Life Some Rain Must fall

Written By: Roberts/Fisher

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their hearts
But when I think of you, another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine

Into each life some rain must fall
But too much, too much is fallin' in mine
Into each heart some tears must fall
But some day the sun will shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their hearts
But when I think of you, another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine

Into each and every life some rain has got to fall
But too much of that stuff is fallin' into mine
And into each heart some tears gotta fall
And I know that someday that sun is bound to shine

Some folks can lose the blues in their hearts
But when I think of you, another shower starts
Into each life some rain must fall
But too much is fallin' in mine
