Bio
The Delta Project is Made up of Crystal Jones (Vocals and Writer) Matthew Ritchie (Guitar, Vox, Writer), and Daniel Ritchie (Percussion & Harmonica). Matt and Dan Ritchie moved to the Blues town of Kansas City, Missouri with their family in 1983 as young children. They were raised in a blue collar family. Their father worked 60 hours a week in a steel mill and their mother worked for the local school district. This recipe of hard work and learning to make ends meet taught them about the blues. In 1996 they started playing music in their basement and were heavily influenced by the Kansas City Blues infused culture. Their fathers lay-off from the steel mill prompted their familys move to Seattle in 2002 where they continued to write Blues inspired by their hometown of Kansas City. Crystal Jones grew up as the daughter of a Pentecostal Preacher in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Her mother and father originally hailed from the small Delta Blues town of Itta Bena, Mississippi and moved to Ypsilanti in the late 40s looking for work in the auto industry. Daddy did his preaching on the side, while holding down a full-time job as an assembler at one of the big three auto makers of the time. Crystals Mother worked within the home and supported her husbands ministry. Crystal developed a love for gospel music at an early age and always sang in the church. In early 2007, Crystal decided to branch out and began seeking another venue for her unique vocal talents. Thats when she met Matt and Dan Ritchie and the Delta Project was born. The Delta Projects authentic front porch Delta Blues style is heavily influenced by the likes of Son House and Mississippi John Hurt with vocal stylings reminiscent of Big Mama Thornton and Etta James.
