The Departure

Whats better then starting a band with a group of friends who grew up together and understand how one another works.

While The Departure has only been around for little less then a year, the members of the band are no strangers to playing music. Having been in the Halifax music scene for almost 10 years, the members of The Departure have learn first hand the ups and downs of playing music. The Departure's Bass player Mathaniel has been playing in touring bands for over five years and is no stranger to the road. Having recently played and toured as a guitarist for Ontario's The Fullblast, Mathaniel got his first taste of playing music professionally. Ryan and Joe are no strangers to the road as well. Their band, Moth and Rust, toured Canada (under the bands old alias of 52 Mintures) with Mathaniel's old rock band Dreams Among Stars in 2003.
The Depature emerged from the ashes of Ryan and Joe's old post hardcore rock band, Moth and Rust, as well as the urge from Evan and Jesse, playing in the local Hardcore/ Metal giants, Memories of Phoenix, to play more accesiable music. In October 2006, the band started writing, but was without a bass player. Mathaniel was filling in as a guitarist for Memories off Phoenix and caught wind about this new project and asked to try out for bass. With the line up complete, the band started writing and rewriting songs.

The band deceided to enter the studio in April of 2007 to record an EP with Jay Lapointe.

Coming on a New Year the band has completed touring the East numerous times with acts such as Ten Second Epic, Faber Drive, Sydney & Ill Scarlett.

The Departure brings a maturity that you dont find in most bands, while still having fun every show and making sure everyone leaves with a solid hook in their head.

Influences varry from Fall out boy to August Burns Red, every member has a different interest but together bring something unique to the group.
