Before Rock, there was Rockabilly, Blues and Rhythm n’ Blues. The Detonators, through their original songs, use the styles that made the mid to late 50s such a vital time in music’s history. They play an era, not simply a genre and then add some.
The quartet’s original blend of blazing jump-rock blues is infused with the driving energy inherent in their hero's music. Chuck Berry, Little Walter and Hound Dog Taylor are just some of the influences that give this band their distinguished sound.
Since forming in mid 1997, The Detonators have recorded 5 albums, distributed by Black Market Music, Melbourne. Enhancing their live performance reputation with aggressive touring through the years, they have played Australia, Coast to Coast as well as festivals and clubs in Europe. Multi award winning, both for live and recorded works, The Dets have earned a deserved reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting, hard working, rockin' roots bands.
Original compositions from all members, abound on all of their releases. These are best described as a combination of flat chat rockabilly, laced with extra serves of twanging slapping roots rock ‘n’ roll, sprinkled with a touch of down home blues. Their straight up rocking formula is a deceptive blend of fat hollow bodied guitar, slapping bull fiddle bass, shuffling stick and skin work, on the button vocals and top fuelling electric harmonica.
