Bio

The Dirt Drifters is more than just the name of a band.

It’s a sound.

An attitude.

A story.

Brothers Matt and Ryan Fleener were raised in Moore, Oklahoma with music in their blood. Sons of a mechanic who had his own music dreams, and a mother who held down a job and raised a house full of boys…Matt and Ryan spent their youths having a band in the garage and food on the table. After years of traveling and sitting in the crowd watching their father on stage they found themselves pointed in the same direction. There was a new sound playing in the bars when the boys hit the drinking age. Red Dirt and Texas music were blaring from local dives and the two boys were caught in the crossfire. In 2001 they sold Matt’s truck, threw what they had in Ryan’s and moved to Nashville.

For Jersey rocker Jeff Middleton, the road to Nashville was very different. The son of a physician and a professor, Jeff grew up in a quiet New York City suburb. While his two brothers listened to the Beatles and Run DMC, Jeff rode the subways to high school in New York City with Bon Jovi and Def Leppard blaring on his walkman. He taught himself the guitar and wound up playing in funk and rock bands throughout college. But things changed when he saw an Okie named Garth Brooks play an acoustic version of “Learning to Live Again” on TV. That night, Jeff made up his mind to move to Nashville.

After a few years drifting through the Nashville music scene, it was in a smoky bar where the three would plant the seeds for what would eventually become The Dirt Drifters. And the rest is dirt, distortion and steel guitars.
