The Dirt Floor Band

Bringing together the sounds of bluegrass, gypsy, and punk rock - with some country ballads and a little funk to round it out - the Dirt Floor form a dynamic part of a West Coast musical style that can’t easily be contained by any particular genre. Their sound has been described as "gypsy-glam-grass" - a quirky yet catchy label that attempts to contain the genre-bending Dirt Floor Band sound. Live performances showcase the band’s varied offerings with a raw, ragged-edged intensity that invites the audience to join in and dance till their feet blister.

Formed in Mendocino County, California in 2006, Adam Sullivan, Andrew Hudson, and Jeff Stovall started as a three-piece string band in which all three songwriters brought a range of musical tastes to the table. The result was a genre-flexing sound that became the foundation for the now five-piece band. In '08, bassist Kyle Madrigal joined, then Bobby Cochran rounded things out on the drums in '09, adding a solid, driving rhythm section. Their eponymous first album came soon after, followed by the 2010 release of a live disc, “Live At the Caspar Inn” that captures the infectious energy and down-home style that’s earned them opening slots with bands such as The Devil Makes 3, Hot Buttered Rum, the Lukas Nelson Band, Sean Hayes, Blue Turtle Seduction, Asylum Street Spankers, Rita Hoskings, and Town Mountain, to name a few.

The band has developed a fan base drawn to their high-energy, up-tempo beat coupled with bald-faced, aggressively earnest lyrics that shamelessly delve into the more difficult and awkward sides of life. They deliver both with easy humor and an undeniable conviction that can make their songs resonate with listeners long after the music ends. Whether it’s a song rife with angst, fear, or sadness, or a pointless song that is simply an excuse to rock, the Dirt Floor Band puts everything they have into their music with reckless abandon and endearing, irreverent enthusiasm.
