"Live review, Death Disco gig"

“The Dirty Secrets are the whole package, they have infectious tunes, great shoes and all the moves to boot, these guys are definitely going places” Live review, Death Disco gig, base mag 24/10/05 by Lynda Soklich - Base Magazine

"Live Review Amplifier Bar"

“but what's important is that The Dirty Secrets are fun to watch live, super tight, and have a great collection of songs up their sleeves. Their synth-toting frontman has enough crazy rock dance moves in his repertoire to make the ghost of Ian Curtis proud, and the enthusiastic crowd warmed to them quickly, leaving no doubt that this is a band to keep an eye on in the future.”

"CD Review"

“the Dirty secrets aren't straight forward retro, matching the synth lines lift with big rock choruses and walls of 60's hamond organ to give it all an original and contemporary twist… In the end, what you get is pure quirky post-modern Perth pop”

Bio

Perths own, The Dirty Secrets are being hailed as part of the post new wave rock resurgence that is about to hit in the Old Blighty. UK producer, engineer, mixer Nick Terry, who has twiddled the knobs for acts The Libertines, The Klaxons, Ian Brown and Simian Mobile Disco, co-produced the band with Alan Brey after hearing their “Outside Lookin In” EP. The first collaboration between the band, Nick and Alan is the single ‘Five Feet Of Snow’ which has already been added to high rotation on national youth network Triple J. Now the heighty world of international record deals is beckoning and plans are underway to release their first full length album worldwide. In the meantime the band will be on the road nationally with The Editors and OKGO this August.

The Dirty Secrets originally came from the South West region of Western Australia cutting their teeth playing numerous shows under various monikers and have already graced the stages of The Perth Big Day Out and Southbound Festivals playing mainstage alongside Wolfmother, LittleBirdy, Veruca Salt and The Panda Band.

Somewhat influenced by bands like Iggy Pop and the Stooges, The Doors, Atomic Swing and Bowie, Jarrah McCleary (keys, vox), Woody Taylor (drums), Waz Page (bass, vox) and Mike Sanders (guitar) use a mix of dirty rhodes, fat synths, distorted bass and rhythmic guitar to create their signature sound.

Mid 2005 saw the band sign to Independent label Embryo Records and soon the band was supporting the likes of Regugitator, Snowman and 67 Special. November that year The “C’mon” ep was released receiving spins on Triple J.

Early 2006 saw the band recording their “Outside Looking In EP” with Canadian producer Alan Brey and also perform at The Perth Big Day Out.

Mid 2006 The Dirty Secrets played their first shows in Sydney and The Hopetoun hotel gig was full of A&R folks from major labels. At the same time “C’mon” started picking up great reviews and was being featured on the national NOVA itunes unsigned initiative plus picked up a host of regional commercial stations.

“Outside Looking In” was released in August to rave reviews with Triple J playing “Wastin My Time”. The Dirty Secrets then embarked on a second national tour opening for The Panda Band and The Exploders.

April 2007 saw the band in the studio with Nick Terry and Alan Brey to produce their debut album which will be released worldwide in 2008.
