"Recient review 1/30/2009"

About The Dirty Shames
absolutely love this since it veered into our listening orbit following a friend request, the Dirty Shames are a New York based two girl / two boy quartet fronted by the sweetly purring vocal talents of a certain Lisa Lush who we must say drills some well tasty Debbie Harry-esque motifs atop some niftily fuzzed out garage beat boogie which for the best part double takes a pre disco cherished era Blondie (check out ‘you‘re a drag‘) and slips in some neatly wired elements of the Heartbreakers and the Ramones for good measure. Its decadent, dirty and much deserving of being checked out at your earliest convenience and while the three chord glam strut shimmied ’promises’ is the obvious ear gear pick up here we’re much admiring of the spiked and stripped down ’restless youth’ which to these ears tailgates that same raw and threadbare touch applied by a certain Mr Thunders on his ’get off the phone’ era material while ’its probably for the best’ sounds like a bad assed Harry fronting a particularly wired and clearly pissed off Shaggs. Mind you lest we omit to mention the dragster stomp ’too little too late’ - we want their records and now!

"The TVD Preview Week: The First Annual Power Pop-A-Licious Festival with The Dirty Shames!"

We’re heading up to New Jersey this weekend for the very first Power Pop-A-Licious Music Festival and we’re chatting up a few of the bands whose songs’ll be stuck in our heads for the next month or so!

The Dirty Shames are from New York City and formed in late 2008. We started the band with a vision that tied together the raw sounds of late 70's punk rock n’ roll and primal 60's garage rock. Since then we have had the honor to play with some legendary bands that were very influential to our sound such as The Zeros, The Waldos (featuring Walter Lure) The Victims, Pure Hell, and Paul Collins Beat.

At the end of 2009 we signed up with RankOutsider Records (which is Pat Todd from Lazy Cowgirls and The RankOutsiders record label out of California) to release our debut CD. Being a Lazy Cowgirls fan growing up, it is exciting to have a CD on RankOutsider Records, which is a great label with a lot of fantastic bands from across the country.
The Dirty Shames consist of Lisa Lush on vocals, Matt Marando on bass, Seanzi on drums, and me, Nathan LaChance on guitar. We are currently working on the release of our second album titled 10 On 10 which is going to be released on vinyl this time and was recorded by Richard Reilly of 70's punk legends The Victims. We are planning to release the recording on 10 inch and it consists of 10 songs (which explains the title.) If you are in the New York area we are going to be live on the air this Wednesday the 27th at 9:30PM on B-Sides Radio Show 91.5FM. If you are not in the area you can still tune in right here where you can download it on podcast or just listen anytime after the show airs.

Listen in and you can get a sneak peak at some of the songs off the upcoming album and we will also be talking about the Power Pop-A-Licious fest coming up this weekend. Also using that link above you can download or listen to a live set and interview we did on same show about year and a half ago. We also going to be at Don Pedros with Born Loose featuring Larry May of The Candy Snatchers May 6th, Bowery Electric (NYC) May 27th with The Booze and The Biters out of Atlanta, and in Cambridge Ma. June 17th at the Middle East Cafe with Muck And The Mires And Paul Collins Beat. - The Vinyl District

"Punk Globe - The Dirty Shames"

I first heard about The Dirty Shames from their lead singer Lisa Lush. We have known each other well over 15 years. From when we were living on the streets of New York City, Lower eastside. In 1996, I left New York City to Los Angeles, and we haven't spoken until the summer of 2008. Lisa kept in contact with me through her My Space account where she originally had found me. A lot has happened since we last saw each other in 1996. I went to college to study Mechanical Engineering and Art, Lisa Lush began bartending and formed the band with her boyfriend Nathan LaChance. Lisa is well influence by many bands from blues to rock n' roll. Here is my recent interview with The Dirty Shames Guitarist Nathan LaChance.
Punk Globe: Who are your music influences?
Nathan: Well, we have a pretty wide range of influences. Everything from old blues artist such as Jimmy Reed and Elmore James, New York Rock n' roll legends like The Ramones, The Hearbreakers, and our label mates on RankOutsider The Victims, The Saints and Radio Birdman from Australia…The Boys…you know all the good stuff.
Punk Globe: How long has The Dirty Shames been playing?
Nathan: Our first show was a Christmas party at a local bar Called Otto's in New York City, so it's been about a year more or less.
Punk Globe: How did you get the band together?
Nathan: Lisa and I had been looking to start a band for a while so we began publishing ads for a drummer. Virginie was the first serious drummer to reply and said that she had played in punk bands in France and was now living locally in Harlem. After meeting her, we set up a practice that weekend and started searching for a bass player. We met Jeremy at a local rock n' roll show and we setup practice as a band the next day.
Punk Globe: Who is in the band?
Nathan: We have Lisa Lush on Vocals, Jeremy Hansen on Bass Guitar, Virginie Brochard on Drums, and me Nathan La Chance on Guitar.
Punk Globe: Here is a bit about The Dirty Shames . I personally have not had the chance to see them live yet. Since performing their first show in December 2008 "The Dirty Shames" have managed to stir up quite a buzz in New York City. Their frequent live appearances have helped build a following that transcends boundaries and brings people from varying scenes together for the love of rock n' roll. Supported by Jeremy Hansen on bass guitar, Virginie Brochard on drums, Nathan LaChance on guitar, and Lisa Lush on lead vocals. They bring together a sound that is deeply rooted in rock n' roll yet uniquely their own. The Dirty Shames were recently featured on Genya Raven's Sirius Radio show, Goldie's Garage, as well as being interviewed and performing live in studio on the B-sides Radio show (91.5 FM) New York. Their CD is currently up for review for airplay on Little Steven's Underground Garage and their cover of what a girl can't do originally by the Reekers is being included on the reissued "Meet the Reekers" Cd is now out for sale in stores.

Here is the most recent review you can check out from 'Losing Today Magazine' by Mark on the Dirty Shames: http://losingtoday.com/tales

The Dirty Shames have their own distinctive and unique sound, raw and dirty. Their sound and talent are out of the ordinary implementing that New York 1970s punk and rock n' roll sound into their music. Check out their latest CD self-titled ‘The Dirty Shames
