The Distractions are a Waterford based 3-piece who finally came together in February 2006 through a shared love of Supergrass, The Jam and Motown.
The three members; Shane Barry – vocals/guitar/keys; Stephen Mahon – bass/vocals and John Daly – drums/vocals, have been playing together for years in a variety of guises, including Dae Kim, Duped and have also provided the rhythm section for hip-hop outfit the Siam Collective.
Taking the melodic instinct of McCartney, the rhythm stylings of the Jam and the Police, the band have settled on a raw commercial sound that is well and truly their own.
The Distractions have spent the last few months touring their first ep, which has seen their live sound expanded to a four-piece with the addition of Jay Bardon on keys. In their various inceptions the band have already supported the likes of Basement Jaxx, Hal, Whipping Boy, Mundy and Ten Speed Racer.
The Distractions have participated in this years Murphys Live competition and their myspace address has found itself in entertainment.ie’s ones to watch for 2007. More recently the band have begun work on their forthcoming debut album due for a release in late 2007.
