A New York six-piece formed around the songwriting partnership of virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Paul Hammer and singer/guitarist Ron Pope, The District are the newest toast of New York , winning acclaim for their high-energy live shows and outstanding musicianship. Likened to a blend of Counting Crows and Maroon 5, The District is a marriage of great songwriting, ass-shaking funk and down home soul.
Hammer’s overwhelming chops add up to more than the sum of his influences (who include blues great Stevie Ray Vaughn and Jimi Hendrix) and Pope’s soulful singing is derived from a wide variety of influences that could only have been born below the Mason-Dixon Line . The District's current line-up also includes pianist Will Frish, outstanding bassist David Perlick Molinari, rhythm guitarist Chris Kienel (whose performances must be seen to be believed) and the dazzling stick work of drummer Wayne Steele.
