"Dasha Releases Video for New Single “Loving You” Read more at http://www.thisisrnb.com/#d3j5wMRmzABpBdfd.99"

Indie artist Dasha brings real emotion and R&B lovin’ with the music video for her buzzing new single “Loving You,” from her upcoming debut album The Howard Roark Project, due out October 4.

The Los Angeles based singer, songwriter and actress brings a refreshing angle back to R&B that harkens back to a time before auto-tune, and the actual delivery of a song meant more than the production. After amassing over 200K plays of the single on Soundcloud, it is clear Dasha has tapped into a feeling that many have been missing.

“I selected ‘Loving You’ because I felt it was the song that resonated most with me,” she said about releasing it as her single. “I wanted to come out with something that felt classic, timeless and relateable. It has a hard 90s R&B mix with some new sounds and vibe, and that’s what I’m about.”

Check out Dasha’s video for “Loving You” below, and preview The Howard Roark Project for a limited time at www.smashmouthfm.com now.

"DASHA: “LOVING YOU” – A SINGLE FROM “THE HOWARD ROARK PROJECT”"

Known for her role in a season of Tyler Perry’s TV series “The Haves and the Have Nots”, Dasha is set to release her debut album “The Howard Roark Project”, from which comes the lead single “Loving You”. This track is a testament to Dasha’s professional, personal and emotional evolution.

Dasha-PhraseIt’s a soulful, beautifully candid track that showcases her dynamic vocals, and her artistic ability. This song is also food for the soul that will peak the appetite of new fans with its powerful, expressive delivery of passion and introspective fervor. This track also illustrates how much her personal and professional experiences have shaped her.

First off, I’m going to start by saying this: If you are looking for the average Beyoncé or Rihanna track, this is not it. Dasha’s “Loving You” is perhaps the most refreshing R&B single I’ve heard in quite some time. This is nothing short of musical ecstasy.

The production on this song is very simple, stripped almost – leaving Dasha and her angelic voice to shine all over the track. They call this Alternative R&B, I call it Classic R&B. This is how R&B and Soul once sounded like, before somebody so desperately wanted to squeeze the word ‘Urban’ into it!

I think that Dasha is one of the most talented new singers and artists to come out amongst the mediocre of the current music business and the overrated neo-soul artists. She takes a groovy, mellow approach and emerges victorious. Dasha encompasses not only beauty but just that much more aestheticism in her music.

Dasha-Single-CoverA talented musician could only be taken aback by her flowing melodies and charming lyricism. She manages to take the listener on a journey through song. With mainstream music drowning radio airwaves with nonsense, it is a breath of fresh air to hear someone who has mastered the old-school craft of music performance – Harmony, melody and relatable storytelling.

This is one of those songs where you just sit, chill with a glass of wine, with your candles lit, and reflect…on a love lost, and never to be regained.

Displaying lyrical and harmonic deftness, Dasha is one of those artists that beg you to listen attentively, pressing the headphones to your ear and turning up the volume as high as possible because there are always nuggets, notes, words and rhythms that satisfy.

She is secure. She is beautiful and she recognizes her worth. Dasha’s singing style especially when she sings in her full head voice is straight on without too many notes. Quite the opposite of what you hear nowadays. She’s built on class, grace and integrity. Substance over fluff! - Jamsphere

"Music Review and Exclusive Interview with Dasha for “Loving You”"

The very substance of this track brings together a really interesting combination of styles and musical genres. At the start, there’s merely a hint of classic R&B in those snippets of lead vocal, alongside a mellow and pleasant classical themed or Spanish style guitar part. The ambiance that is created by all of this remains mellow and stylish throughout, the beat is light and easy to listen to, then you get these vocal harmonies just threading that chorus melody throughout the track.

These vocal layers seem to build and build as the song progresses, not to the point of being heavy or overbearing, but almost to a stage where the song feels like a multitude of moments and thoughts as if you’re spiraling off and away into some dreamlike state. It’s a really good effect, and at the same time you quickly pick up that melody, it becomes familiar early on, and it does in fact feel even more reminiscent of some of the very early nineties tracks from certain R&B acts the ones who made songs we all can remember.

The leading vocal is soft and skillful, very easy and enjoyable to listen to, with some beautiful moments of tone and unique inflections that really speak volumes for the fresh sound and character of the artist. There’s a nostalgic sound to the voice at times, but that’s also a pleasure to hear; it’s a warm sort of familiar, just occasionally.

The verses are gentle yet strong, particularly along side the harmony-thick chorus section. This contrast is greatly effective in spacing out the song and increasing the impact of each part. As mentioned, things build up and up towards the end, including the strength and performance of that leading vocal. The talent is clear, and everything works really well in this particular setting. It’s a great song; it really stays with you after you’ve listened.

Dasha Chadwick
Singer and Actress, Dasha Chadwick
What is Dasha most known for in the entertainment industry?

I am known most for my roles on THAT Guy from Black N Sexy TV and Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots.

What have been some of your biggest achievements in your career thus far?

I’ve been working professionally as a singer for almost 10 years now and acting for 3. It seems simple but believe it or not, in this city, people come and go every day.

How did you land the role of Darlene in Tyler Perry’s Television Series “The Have and Have Nots? How did you feel about the opportunity to work with Tyler and be on Oprah’s OWN Network?

I got the role as Darlene the good old fashion way. I went in and did an audition with Kim Coleman in Los Angeles. It was taped and sent to Mark and Tyler for review. Two weeks later, I was on a plane to Atlanta for a in-person audition , and the next day I was on set. Honestly, working with Tyler Perry was something that people in my life and family have always told me I was going to do or should do. It was actually on my bucket list. No matter what anyone says, because everyone always seems to have an opinion, I respect him with the upmost respect, because you cannot make up the kind of life he’s lived and obstacles he has overcome. To see where he is today is insane. I mean, the man was homeless and slept in his car and now he has his own studio! On set he is a consummate professional and I learned so much just from watching him. It was an honor to be involved, even if it was for just one season. And let’s not even get started with Oprah… she’s like my play auntie in my head. LOL. So to be attached to a show that’s on her network was definitely a dream.

Tell us a little about your upcoming music album “The Howard Roark Project” and when should we expect the big release?

The Howard Roark Project will be dropping on October 4th. It is my first full length project, as I have released mix-tapes, singles and EPs in the past. This album is my rebellion, if you will, to what the industry has tried to make me be. I have met many Executives, A&Rs and everyone had some opinion about how small I should be, how blonde I should be, who I should date, etc. but nobody really knew anything or talked about about music other than me needing to sound like “fill in the blank”. Everyone wanted me to be a copycat of somebody else. The Howard Roark Project is the exact opposite; it is me, it is original, it’s nothing like anybody else.

front

Which one do you love more, Singing or Acting and why?

Music is my first love. It’s what I’ve been doing since I was 5 and I have been writing songs since I was 12. I’ve always been involved in the acting through school, even in college I directed some productions, but music has always been my first love.

It’s to my understanding that you are also a blogger and radio host? Tell us more about that?

Yes, I started a blog a few years ago called Diary of a Starving Artist which chronicles my life lessons, industry lessons, and dating experiences here in Los Angeles. That blog has now been transformed into The Divah Diaries, which will be a live show hosted on the Bidchat Network on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. I still write in my blog but it is now called The Divah Diaries. As for the radio show, I had a radio show called Cypher Lounge Radio. My co-host, Hasahan Phenomenon who now co- produces TDD, and I manage to hustle and grind and create relationships in the business while building a listenership upwards of 78,000 people in 5 years. We have been on hiatus from the radio show but it is definitely something that I am looking to do again.

What has been your biggest struggle in breaking into the entertainment business?

I’d say my biggest struggle has been being taken seriously. The industry is very male influenced and operated and a lot of men think that because you are a woman that you are going to compromise your integrity and morals or your identity for that matter. I have had offers, for large sums of money, connections, etc. but I’ve never been the type of person who could live with myself after making such deals. So that has been a problem LOL. I also would say that the industry has become so watered down that people do not respect talent as much as they respect trends these days. I’ve been in some labels and talked with people in high positions who knew nothing about music. They were just friends of friends that got pulled in from some area of life to work in the industry because it seemed cool. It’s hard for someone who doesn’t really know about this life to understand and respect what I do.

As a black African American woman how hard has it been for you to be taken seriously in the music and film industry? What are some of the obstacles that you have to get jump through?

Girl… Honestly I feel like that has been my biggest obstacle. You’d be surprised at how many times someone will hear my album or single and say “too bad she’s black”. In the past, I’ve been asked to dye my hair blonde, I’ve been told that I need to be more like Mya, I’ve had executives tell me to my face that another for fair skinned black woman is more acceptable. So yes, my color has always been a problem. For them but not for me. Black women don’t necessarily get the cream of the crop most of the time in regards to images in media and forced representations of beauty but that is changing. We are often perceived in a light that is not true to our spirit and our abilities and some people take that and run with it. As far as in film/TV, I feel like there aren’t a lot of roles for women of color on major platforms. And the times, when there is a role for someone who is the sidekick of the lead white girl, they often don’t want her to have a certain appeal. And that’s not to take away from anybody that is looking work in these roles. More power to them. But there is a philosophy and science behind why certain women of color are placed on certain shows with certain lead characters. Now, that’s not to say that I don’t feel like there are times when I get looked over by my own people. There is such a thing as being overly Afrocentric in media. So in those instances, I feel like, because I’m not that black chick that’s willing to go all natural, rocking a dashiki, etc. then it’s hard for me to book roles on the shows that are actually pushing predominantly black casts.

Who are your inspirations in life to keep you motivated to succeed?

Honestly, besides the fact that I would be miserable if I lived my life any other way, I would say my mother. My mother is the best mother ever. She is strong, selfless and is my biggest supporter. She has sacrificed a lot for me and continues to, and there’s nothing I want more than to be able to give her back everything she’s given me plus more.

Tell us about a time where you wanted to give up and felt like you had nothing left to give. What kept you going and what was the outcome?

Girl… well this has happened to me 3 times since being in LA. LOL. I guess I will tell you about the second time I almost gave up and left. I was so frustrated with my life here in LA that I was ready to go back home to the Bay Area. It’s hard to sacrifice having a personal life, you know the house, the kids, the husband, as a means to get your career going. I was crying in my car in the parking lot of a supermarket. I had just gotten off the phone with one of my best friends. She told me that I owed it to myself to keep going and that I was meant to be where I was. She also reminded me that there was no way that my mother was going to let me move back as well. So I’m sitting in the car crying and I just start praying. I prayed to God that if I was truly supposed to stay in LA and continue fighting that he had 6 months to show me something worth me staying. It was July and I decided that if nothing happened by December then I would move back home. That year in October I booked THAT Guy in the following month I booked Tyler Perry. So to make a long story short what keeps me here is my faith in God.

For all of the young women out there who want to pursue their singing and acting careers what are the most important things for them to know before going all in?

I would say that it is so important that they know truly who they are and what they are willing to do to get what they want. If you want to be a hoe to get where you’re going that’s your call. Just know that it’s something that you have to deal with and you have to be able to sleep at night. But if you know that you want to get where you want to get the right way, you have to prepare your spirit and your mind to overcome all the adversity and all the people who are going to try to test your boundaries and limits. You have to have your faith game on fleek because it will be tried more than you can imagine. Once you’ve got that together, I would say you need to start trusting your own abilities and having fun with your craft while being dedicated to it just like you would be to romantic partner.

What current Music do you have out for your fans to listen to?

Well my single “Loving You” is available now on all platforms including SoundCloud. You can also find my previous singles and EPs on iTunes and all other outlets. We are currently giving away The Howard Roark Project via free download through SmashMouthRadio.FM . But that will only be for a limited time.

Are you currently working on any new films or being featured in other Tyler Perry Shows?

Right now my focus is working on The Divah Diaries which is launching on the Bidchat Network on September 20th at 7 p.m. PST . It’s my first time completely creating, producing and hosting my own show, so it takes a lot of my energy right now. But I am auditioning regularly so you never know, I could be talking about more than one series soon. As for Tyler Perry, I haven’t had any calls as of lately but I’m always down for TPS.

How can your supporters find you on social media and continue to give love to everything you are currently doing and working on?

You can find me on social media @TheDivineDivah . That works for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. - One West Magazine

"Loving You"

When we heard the soulful voice from the singer of “Loving You,” we had to reach out for an interview and find out the process of creating this soon to be hit. Find out how the song came together below as we speak with the artist know as Dasha.

Why did you select this song as your current single?

I selected “Loving You” because I felt it was the song that resonated most with me. I wrote it more than 10 years ago and every time I would revisit it, I was always feeling it. I wanted to come out with something I felt was classic, timeless and relate-able. It has a hard 90s R&B mix with some new sounds vibe and that’s what I am about. A nice appetizer to the full meal, if you will.

How does this single relate to the rest of the album?

It establishes the bases of sound for the whole project, which is R&B and the other tracks explore sonic from that center, if that makes sense.

What was the writing process for the song?

I wrote this song so long ago its hard to recall. I’m sure that I heard a beat at the time and recorded it on my phone, which is what I did back then. I remember being unable to sleep and up til 2am getting it all out. Then, I’d take that extra rough recording and play it in the car. If I could ride to it, then it was a keeper, which is something I still do. Over time, the instrumentation has changed because in this town, you lose touch with producers for one reason or another, and you are not able to use the same track without permission, well at least I don’t. So, more than 10 years later, I still loved it and it was reborn to what you hear today.

What do this song’s lyrics mean to you?

The song was about the agony of losing someone you truly loved and tried to move on from but just could not shake. The pain of realizing that what you wanted, you already had. Which is the story of most people’s lives. It also, shows the power of real love. It never dies.

What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?

I hope it would be soul searching/shaking or inspiring to see me do this song live. I hope to make you think or search your heart for meaning that you can relate to. Every time I touch a stage, I do so with the intent to connect, even if it’s with one person.

Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

On some levels, yes, but I am the same artistically as I am in my everyday life, there are many layers, and The Howard Roark Project as a whole will relate a lot of them.

Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?

Yes, the video is going to be released very soon and I’m excited! The video is about a relationship where one is all in and the other is constantly pushing the other away. Its a powerful, argumentative relationship but only because one side does not see what they have, until its too late

One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?

My motivation is life, love, sex, fear, faith…the human experience.

Today's Interview Dasha @TheDivineDivah

DashaWhen did you start music and what triggered your love for R&B?
I grew up in a home where music was always played. The Whispers, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey among others were always playing so R&B is a natural love. Its the soundtrack of my life.
Where did you grow up and what is your best memory growing up? I grew up in the Bay Area. Started out in Oakland and later moved to Alameda. One of my best memories growing up would be waking up late on a Saturday morning to the smell of my mother cooking a bomb breakfast and the sound of James Brown or Michael Jackson.
What's your next project & what should your fans expect next?
Well, The Howard Roard Project drop Oct 4th so I'm going to be pushing that but Im also launching The Divah Diaries on the Bidchat Network which is a talk show so people can look out for that as well.
Besides being an up and coming artist and producer with a growing fan base and buzz how do you stay busy?
I don't have to try to stay busy these days, I just am. Lol. There is always something to do when you are the label and producing your own show. I also perform often, so it gets to the point to where I have to schedule sleep. Lol.
What are the vocalist who inspired to start singing?
The first artist I ever learned from was Regina Belle. I learned "Baby Come To Me" at 5 and then performed Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" in a talent show shortly after. As I grew and explored those influences changed. I found Chaka Khan, she is my ulitamate influence really. Her and Nina Simone.
What success means to you?
Success to me means doing what I love and what I was created for while being able to live a good life. I dont have to be a billionaire, I just want to be ok and happy, to make my mother proud.
What are your most memorable achievements this far and why?
My most memorable thus far would have to be getting into the UCLA jazz program and singing at the Apollo Theatre in New York. They were two things that I have really wanted to do and in the back of my mind felt or was told I couldn't achieve, but I did.

"Interview with a passionated and Stylish Artist"

We recently interviewed a very talented artist Dasha. Known for her role in a season of Tyler Perry”s tv series “The Haves and the Have nots’ Dasha is set to release her debut album “The Howard Roark Project”

Twist Online : First of all tell us about the start of your professional?

Dasha : I guess my career started professionally shortly after graduating from UCLA. I started working in the lab with my still producer Rob Deez and started working heavily with a wedding band every week. It was the first time that I was getting paid to actually do what I love. The hosting an acting started a while after.

Twist Online : Who or what inspired you as an artist growing up?

Dasha : I’ve had many influences some being Mahalia Jackson, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan and then when I got to college I was heavily influenced by Nina Simone, John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan and the list goes on. I can find inspiration or influence and almost every artists that I listen to.

Twist Online : You are set to release your debut Album “The Howard Roark Project”. Tell us about that?

Dasha : Yes I am releasing the Howard Roark Project on October 4th and I’m really excited about it. This is somewhat of a protest against what the industry has tried to force me into all these years. It is what I wanted to be; nothing more, nothing less. The title was inspired by a lead character from The Fountainhead.

Twist Online : You debut song “LOVING YOU” from the upcoming album has received exceptional response. You must be excited about that?

Dasha : yes. It was kind of overwhelming. But I’m very excited and happy to hear that people are ready for something like me. It’s hard to be in this business and constantly be rejected, constantly be told that you’re not good enough, or that your music is not right for the industry right now. So hearing people here in the US and in other countries even tell me that they stayed up all night listening to my song is a big f-you to anybody who’s ever told me that I couldn’t. And for that I’m grateful.

Twist Online : Your role in Tyler Perry”s tv series “The Haves and the Have nots” was appreciated. Are you working on any other project?

Dasha : Yes working with Tyler Perry was a lot of fun and a blessing because I learned so much in such a short period of time. I am doing my talk show ,The Divah Diaries, which will start mid September every Tuesday. But I am in talks right now about taking The Divah Diaries and making it into a web series. But that will be further down the line as you could see my plate is already full and I can only do so much.

Twist Online : What is your favorite music genre?

Dasha : I guess I would be a R&B hip-hop Jazz head. I don’t think I necessarily have a favorite genre as much as I have a favorite time period. And for me that would be the 90s the 70s.

Twist Online : What is the biggest achievement in your career so far?

Dasha : honestly, not giving up and going back home. You’d be surprised at how many people will come to LA and have to go back at some point. So I’m just grateful and proud of the fact that it’s been 11 years and despite the downs and several ups, I have managed to find a way to survive. I think my greatest accomplishments are ahead of me.

dasha
Twist Online : What are your future goals as a music artist?

Dasha : I hope that musically I can create a space where we can get back to accepting individualism an artist. My goal is to rebirth the idea that it’s okay to be unique musically, it’s okay if you’re not a perfect size 2, It’s okay if you don’t dance as long as what you do is exceptional.

Twist Online : How much active you are on social media ? What’s the best way to follow you?

Dasha : I am very active. Social media is a really awesome way for me to talk to people who listen to my music or who have advised they might want. I would say Instagram is the best way to link up. Follow me at @TheDivineDivah
