Bio
When Erik Bradford, 25, began writing songs of his own three years ago, he chose to take his songwriting cues from darker singer/songwriters versed in the blues and the Southern folk tradition. It is no surprise that Bradford took this route, since he was raised in the South and surrounded by a more orthodox way of life. His lyrics tend to reflect his abandonment of that orthodoxy, and in a knee-jerk fashion, they tend to represent a more lustful and gluttonous side. Despite melodramatic imagery of almost violent and spiteful relationships with women, himself, and his country, a light of hope seems to break through the general gloom.
His influences include Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, 16 Horsepower, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, Leonard Cohen, Elliot Smith. He also appeases his pop sensibilities with most anything that has derived from The Beatles throughout the history of rock and roll. And of course, the 90's rock of his teenage youth shows itself in obvious ways.
His musical goal is to mesh well trained musicianship with a palpable song.
His artistic mission is to be free and seek truth
