The Doomsday Device

Coming from diverse backgrounds, we started out playing hardcore punk because we all liked the music at the time, and it was a logical area to begin.
Upon playing some shows and noticing other similar artists, we realized that sounding like Thrice will only get you so far.
We took a sharp left turn and decided to venture as far from the "scene" as humanly possible.
We started writing a lot of ballads and waltzes on piano and began to form a sort of medieval, turn of the century sound that evokes images of castles and kings---a suiting match for our subversive socio-political commentary.
We don't subscribe to trends or expectations but instead are independent and devoid of classification. We are out to make the listener think twice about the music they listen to, the officials they vote for and the routine they religiously follow. Mostly we want people to think!
Our lyrics are filled with imagery and metaphors to compliment the moody, sexy, often schizophrenic melodies that interweave between layered harmonies and textured arrangements.
Influences range from Radiohead, Zappa, Beatles and Pink Floyd to Miles Davis to Meat Puppets to Muse and Murder by Death.
What distinguishes us from all others is our creativity. We have consciously developed songs that are both beautiful and violent, thought provoking and penetrating. It's something you have to listen to a few times and put on headphones to take in the intricate melodies and complex structure, often shifting and experimenting with time signatures while maintaining a solid foundation of head bobbing, heady music that anyone can enjoy.
In January we are embarking upon our first west coast tour with Seattle-bred The Bitter Start who curently reside in Los Angeles.
The tour will run for two months and stretch from Vancouver to Tijuana...
