The Dopeness is comprised of accomplished musicians hailing from L.A, Chicago, Mosier and Scotland. Being fortunate enough to cross paths in Portland, Oregon The Dopeness was born in 2003, mainly for our own entertainment. Having garnered a cult following in recent years, we have now begun playing a number of shows for your entertainment…
Our mission is to write and perform songs that celebrate the everyday and the mundane, to celebrate the fact that hardly anyone grows up to be an astronaut or professional athlete, to celebrate the amateur status and authenticity of regular people.
Our music strives to attain and sustain a state and level of “higher dopeness”. The Dopeness is to happiness as toenail is to clipper.
Lead by a solid, unforgiving backbone duo of bass guitar and drums, the electric guitar and vocals are free to explore the outer edges of creativity.
Lyrically The Dopeness sound is a precise mix of tongue in cheek and profundity. Musically The Dopeness is a voice with its own unique whine singing ingenious phrases. An electric guitar highlighting syncopation. A classically trained bass player working the frets of his instrument into a panic. A drum kit gently cuddled with one hand and smacked up side the head with the other.
The members of The Dopeness all have day jobs (unfortunately/fortunately?). The Dopeness is their creative outlet, a forum in which they can conjure up feelings of freedom and fun that are all too often forgotten or taken for granted.
We will play music. And it will be good (we hope)!
