The Doyle Brothers 'Synapse' EP Review
By Keah Simmons , 9/7/2014

Author Rating:
3.0 Stars - It's Good
Originally from Buffalo, New York, sibling pop duo The Doyle Brothers manage to make music that’s filled with fun, upbeat instrumentals and soulful voices, creating music that’s a little bit soul, a little bit rock n’ roll, and a whole lot of pop. Their latest EP, Synapse, shows off their ability to draw from various genres, while still being able to appeal to a wide range of ages.

The first song, “W.A.I.S.T.D,” that stands for “What Am I Supposed To Do,” is one of the tracks that I liked the most on the EP. I enjoyed the transition into the chorus, and especially liked the piano and the whistles that are sprinkled throughout the song. “W.A.I.S.T.D” also features an interesting blend of both brothers' voices.

“Dirty” is the second song on the EP, and it’s very reminiscent, with some synth thrown in, and a really fun, head-bobbing beat. “Mama Said,” is an especially nice, upbeat, feel-good song, where both brothers voices sound especially soulful compared to the other songs on Synapse. The last song, “Never Cared Anyway,” has a slower beat to it, though it still features a prominent drum track throughout. It also features a nice vocal range, sweetly sung harmonies in the background, and an unobtrusive but pleasant synth chord that fades out the song and brings the EP to a close.

Much of the EP echoed like many famous boy bands, such as N’Sync or The Backstreet Boys, but with a little bit more of a hip-hop and electric feel. I’d say The Doyle Brothers are somewhere in the Olly Murs or Rixton realm of music, giving off a little bit of this, a little bit of that, with a sprinkle of spice on top. - Keah Simmons
