The Drawing Board

The Drawing Board

BandAlternativeRock

Austin, Texas indie rock quartet lace their lo-fi, bedroom symphonies with sardonic wit and rock electricity.

Biography

In early 2004, the L.A. based indie rock outfit The Other Half dissolved. Justin and Brandon resurfaced in Austin, Texas. The brothers Tapp enlisted local gigolo Willy Camero, veteran of Austin faves The Stepbrothers and The Stingers, to play bass and singer/songwriter David Vassallo to play guitar/keyboards. After a few months in the oven, the name "The Drawing Board" was agreed upon, an EP was finished . . . and we'll let you know what happens next.

Lyrics

Happy With You

Written By: Justin Tapp

Your smile vanished with no ransom note
And we've become Mr. and misanthrope
I'm spinning plates up on your hanging rope
And I do . . .

Your words are subtitled in irony
But your type was hard for me to see
So I serve a sentence that I couldn't read
Yeah I do . . .

But I was happy with you
Yeah I was happy with you
I was happy . . . I was happy with you

Your second act got the same bad review
And my curtain call of duty too
You bit off more scenery than you could chew
Yeah you do . . .

But I was happy with you
I was happy with you
I was happy . . . I was happy with you

Maybe I'm not the same as you
But is this the best that you can do?
Could you try harder?
That is all I ask of you

'Cause I was happy
I was happy
I was happy . . . with you

I was happy with you
I was happy with you
I was happy . . . I was happy with you

Something I Can't Have

Written By: Justin Tapp

If neccessity is the mother of invention
Mom always liked you better
'Cause all my wants and needs
Are postmarked disaffection
And in this open letter . . .

I want something I can't have
The situation drives me mad
And desperation's like a fad

I just want something I can't have
I just want something I can't have

The grass is always greener
On your side of this fence I'm on
It's a very common story
But where's the missing scene
Where I get everything I want?
And will I find it boring?

I want something I can't have
The situation drives me mad
And desperation's like a fad

I just want something I can't have
I just want something I can't have

If I can't have you
I don't want anything
If I can't have you in my life

So here's the missing scene
Where I get everything I want . . .
I know I'll find it boring

I want something I can't have
The situation drives me mad
And desperation's like a fad

I just want something I can't have
I just want something I can't have

I want something I can't have
The situation drives me mad
And desperation's like a fad

I just want something I can't have
I just want something I can't have
I just want something I can't have

Break Me

Written By: Justin Tapp

This conversation's dead
Killed in the nervous wreck
That lately, can break me

My turn to testify
My wit is running dry
It breaks me, it breaks me

It breaks me
It breaks me down
It breaks me
It breaks me

And hope's my bag of bricks
My carrot on a stick
It breaks me, it breaks me

It breaks me
It breaks me down
It breaks me
It breaks me

And I hate to complain
So I lodge this last refrain

It breaks me
It breaks me down
It breaks me
It breaks me

It breaks me
It breaks me down
It breaks me
It breaks me
