Bio

The Drellas were formed after the break-up of 90’s Indie-Rock Gods, ‘Space’, by lead vocalist and songwriter, Tommy Scott and it was intended to be an 'outlet for his darker and heavier side'.

Indeed, the band has a very different sound from Space; their songs are more guitar-driven, with analogue 70’s synth noises sweeping across the tracks and, at times, there’s even a cello thrown into the mix! All of this whilst still retaining Space’s signature, quirky lyrical take on human nature.

Tommy says: "I’ve never felt so excited about music since I first heard the likes of Spizz Energi, Elvis, ATV, X-Ray Spex, Motörhead, Frank Sinatra, the Flamingos and Echo and the Bunnymen. When we plug in, I feel I can finally hear the sounds I've always craved for in my head, I ADORE OUR NOISE!"

"After much frustration with Space (no offence to the boys - they were just as frustrated as me), I decided I needed to sail on a new ship... Enter Phil and his brain-thumping bass lines! We jammed at home with a drum machine, but the poor little rhythm machine just didn't have the power on its own... Enter Leon and his pounding tom toms! Along with the 70's drum machine the band moved up a stage. YES! But there was still something missing... Enter Sofie and her spooky cello and keyboards! The Drellas were complete at last!”

"As for where the name comes from, Drella was Andy Warhol's nickname given to him by Lou Reed, as he was half Dracula and half Cinderella - just like this band!”

Sounding like the perfect punk soundtrack to a B-Movie Horror film, The Drellas' angular melodies and low-fi sound, paired with quirky and perceptive lyrics, captures audiences’ imagination and leads them down a path to explore the more twisted side of life.

Enjoy the goosebumps!
