"Drifting Away at Slaint"

I walked into a small bar on a Saturday night in Portland Maine called Slainte (slanche). I had been there one other time but had never seen a band play there. The Drift (a Portland based trio) was in the middle of the first set when I arrived. I was pleasantly surprised at what I had stumbled into. This was not you typical power trio playing Sweet Home Alabama or any covers for that matter. This was poppy jazzy music that had melodies that I was whistling the next day. Not only were the songs catchy and smooth but also this band seemed to have a crowd singing along at times. I found this very refreshing and a little unusual seeing as I had never heard of The Drift before. I spoke to Jeff Bucci after the show asking why I haven't seen or heard of them before. He simply said that he was "waiting for the right time to get his material out for people to hear". Bucci is the primary songwriter and just got out of Rocking Horse Studio in New Hampshire a few months ago. He told me that "instead of running to the streets and playing every Smokey bar room he decided to wait until his album was finished" Although the Album (Clockwise) isn't due to be released until March or April The Drift had to go out and get acclimated before the CD release shows. Keeps your eyes open for The Drift, I have a feeling they will be playing many venues around the northeast and beyond.

Bio

The Drift, is Based around singer songwriter (Jeff Bucci). In early 2008 he bought a 1967 Wurlitzer electric piano and started belting out melodies. The sound and feel of this vintage piano had sparked something in bucci that had been dormant. Jeff always had these sounds floating around in his head, but until 2008 he hadn't found his muse. Bucci tells people that shortly after he started writing, he stopped listening to all music. He didn't want to be influenced, bothered or sidetracked by anything during this process.
Opting not to hit the streets and play every gig that presented itself, Bucci was determined to complete enough material to record a full length album..
In late august of 2009 Jeff decided to Record at Rocking Horse Studio (one of New England's premier recording destinations)
Shortly after finishing his album he sought after two local musicians that would fit the sound and direction Bucci had envisioned. Tom Delrossi and Duane Edwards were a a perfect match, offering years of experience and dedication.
