"The Dusk"

"There's no reason that The Dusk couldn't be as big as Delphic and Hurts" - Tony Heywood, My Dad Rocks

"The Dusk"

"This album took me back to the 80's and at the same time brang me hurtling into the musical future. I don't take to bands easily and have very particular musical tastes from a lifetime of listening and going to gigs. So when I tell you these guys have something interesting, I know what I'm talking about. Plaintive vocals but with an inner strength, energetic and stomping drums, musically clever hooks, The Dusk have energy. Their songs have an anthemic quality, whilst the songwriting shows a depth of feeling whilst not playing the 'poor me' game. These tracks have a real mature beauty about them. I would class The Dusk as intelligent musicians as opposed to people who play instruments - there's a huge difference. Reminding me of the best of my Manchester Scene days, such as Joy Division, the Fall, Stone Roses... dancing at the Hacienda... and yet resolutely very much being themselves, experiencing their music brought me sheer joy." - Jane Carter, Mic Up

"The Dusk"

"... The Dusk made their live debut earlier this year and this first collection of songs make an immediate impact. The airy electronica of “Falling” sits well with the light, slightly fragile vocals of James Grierson, delivering a sound that’s nearer to 80’s rock than they’d perhaps imagine. It works well too and whilst they’d prefer to compare themselves to more modern leftfield indie acts, the commercial appeal of this first track gives them something pretty unique. The guitars are out in more force elsewhere, yet the chord structures and song style prevail, levering them a sound that soaks in new wave pretensions and stadium rock ideals. “It Comes Again” is another case in point where the feel of the new romantic disco collides with a pre-86 dance/rock fusion. There’s something dreamy and different about The Dusk... and this extended EP... is full of addictive tunes. Generally excellent stuff and can't wait to hear more." - Jon Ashley, Music Dash

"The Dusk"

"North-west five piece The Dusk... have done wonders on this debut, which combines elements of indie, electro and rock. 'Falling'... is a mesmerising mix of indie with a spoonful of electronica. The vocals of James Grierson are able to sit steadily on top of the rumbling music to form a stable balance between the two. 'Therapy' produces more of the indie vibes than its predecessors,... and demonstrates the versatile nature of the band. 'Voices' opens with a beautiful piano melody, to which is added a much stronger and forceful guitar segment, creating a puzzle for the ears to decipher. Taking into consideration the duration these guys have actually been able to call themselves 'a band', it is surprising how integrated they sound together. They have been able to produce a record that combines many elements of music - guitar driven melodies, synth, electronica, more tender piano and guitar as well as Grierson's vocals, and done something magical with the talents they have been given." - Michelle Moore, Room Thirteen

Bio

During the last year The Dusk have been busy creating a buzz in the North West music scene with their original, hard-hitting sound and music that is heavily guitar driven but also uniquely laced with electro samples, ambient synth and expressive acoustic instrumentation. Their sound is truly huge, creating an excitement in their music that has been favourably compared to some of the world’s finest bands; from Doves, The Music, Delphic, Hurts, Happy Mondays, to Oasis, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Prodigy, Radiohead and even U2. After debuting in support at Crewe’s renowned The Box venue in February 2011, The Dusk went straight to a headline slot at the influential Manchester music club, The Roadhouse. They have since headlined at Manchester's Moho Live and Dry Bar venues as well as Cheshire's Lift-Off Festival.

2012 is set to be an even bigger year for the band. This will begin with the release of their debut EP in March which will be promoted heavily during their tour of specially selected festivals and venues, that kicks off at The Castle, Oldham on March 16th and includes Liverpool's renowned Cavern Club.

Recent reviews have described their music as having anthemic quality, being gutsy, dreamy and full of addictive tunes.

“If this band was a beer it would have a medal of excellence. If it was a wine it would be a full-bodied gutsy red!..Plaintive
