Bio
Adopting a highly unorthodox approach to the conception and production of their music, The Electric I merges elements of vastly dissimilar nature and origin. The resulting blend is one of powerful grooves and groundbreaking might that effectively challenges categorization.
Brain-child of Mauro Ochoa, the band assertively tackles instrumental and vocal experimentation over a base layer of fundamentally traditional Latin rhythms, tightly woven into restless constructions of variable metric structure, wrapped in layers of expressive bravura and bold instrumental vigor.
With a core line-up of musicians from Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba and Australia, The Electric I uncovers unsuspected intersections of musical influences and rhythmical patterns. Although Ochoa has instigated the fundamental compositions for their first release, the spirit is that of a highly collaborative project, where the individual influences of each of the band members is patently present.
Their approach is one of open, mutable, creative muscle that ventures beyond the protective safety of an identifiable genre to return home to and past the realm of the experimental. Their exploratory temperament wanders through uncharted territory with courage and confidence, moving to whichever direction the call of curiosity is loudest, engaging the musicians in an execution with much room for improvisation and shine.
