Bio

Hailing from Chicago, The Emotions: Wanda, Sheila and Pamela began singing in churches and on radio shows and even performed for the legendary Mahalia Jackson.

In 1960, they were signed to Stax/Volt contract after placing first place in a talent contest at the famed Regal Theater and a recommendation by the Staple Singes, who saw their performance and vouched for their marvelous talent. Four of their Vollt Records singles reached into the hot 100, but none placed higher than "So I Can Love You" which hit #39 in July of 1969. They made a brief appearance in the 1973 "Wattstax" documentary.

In 1976 they signed with Maurice White's Kalimba Productions and Colombia Records. Their first Collaborations produced the "Flowers" album. The Emotions later toured with Earth, Wind and Fire, which added another measure of respect for their ability and soon produced "Dont Ask My Neighbors," which propelled them further up the ladder to success. They toured Europe, Japan and the United States with the Commodores and won a Grammy an American Music Awards.

In 2001, the Emotions received a Pioneer Award from the Rhythm & Blues Foundation.
