Bio

Rising like a phoenix from the ashes of earlier bands, The Empire Makers were formed when four wandering troubadours crossed paths while making their own individual ways along the winding Interstate Highways of Southern California that inspire so much of their music. Armed with a strong collection of songs and a belief that California had largely been left out of the the garage rock revolution of the 2000s, Doug James sought to form a band in the small pueblo of Los Angeles with guitarist Matthew Orique, but the duo never found the right mix of individuals to round out the rhythm section. Seeking spiritual balance, Doug returned to San Diego, the land of sun, sand, and sea from whence he came, believing his rock 'n' roll dream to be dead. On the third day of Doug's quest, the planets aligned and bassist Sean Rollins showed up on Doug's doorstep, and the dream was alive once more. After much reflection, the trio found its founding drummer in Daniel Oyen, Doug's boyhood friend and former band mate from a previous life. After a series of triumphant shows in Los Angeles in 2009, Daniel parted ways with the band and was replaced by Orange County mainstay Joey Tobiska, who brought his unique thunder to the band and to its recently recorded and forthcoming LP, Golden State Blues.

Indeed, the freeway screams the names of the four Empire Makers, beckoning them to fulfill their collective destiny and play the music that will awaken a generation, a golden state, and a new epoch of rock 'n' roll glory.
