"Rock & Roll Circus"

Athens the Empties started off the night. Any misgivings the audience might have felt by having a group of kids who looked as if they might have come straight from the high school cafeteria to the stage was quickly knocked aside. The band jumped back and forth easily between melodic power-pop and frantically emotional pleas, kicking things off to a great start. By the time they made it through their Violent Femmes-esqe closer, they had won over the crowd.

"Review of Live Performance at Tasty World"

I leave the young throng at Nuçi’s Space to plumb the depths of newly local four-piece pop-rock group The Empties at Tasty World. Almost instantly, I’m drawn to the solo, as well as three-part-harmony vocal strength, of this guitar band that isn’t averse to throwing a sha-la-la chorus in with the retro-inspired surf rock before moving on to darker, harder, emo-rock from the land between The Killers and Franz Ferdinand. In fact, the band reminds me quite a lot of the local three-headed pop-rock love child Monster Zero.

The Empties are proving to be full to the brim with high energy and captivating pop with a great depth of melody. While the band spans the spectrum from moody, slightly introspective, contemporary pop to a full-on party rock band that can mix it up without a hint of cheese or insincerity, it creates loads of danceably clean, hard, great-sounding fun. - Flagpole (Ben Gerrard)
