"Rye Playland Battle of the Bands 2009"

Six of the best young bands from the metro area are preparing for battle as Playland Park in Rye hosts its annual “Battle of the Bands,” Tuesday, July 21, beginning at 7 p.m., at the park’s famous Music Tower Theater.

The bands, consisting of young people 15 to 20 years of age, were selected as the cream of the crop out of more than 20 entries. Judging will be done by a panel of music experts that will include individuals from the local and professional music industry. The winning band will receive a grand prize trophy, six hours of free recording time courtesy of Acme Recording Studios, Inc., a professional recording studio, and a $200 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music. Winners will be invited back to perform at the county’s winter Battle of the Bands at the Westchester County Center in January, 2010.

This year’s contenders are:
• The Endpiece (Hawthorne, NY)
• The Rochambros (New Rochelle, NY)
• Bleed the Fifth (White Plains, NY)
• Romance and Ruin (Valhalla, NY)
• Side Project (Vista, NY)
• Mori and the Contraband (Rye Brook, NY)

The “Battle of the Bands” is sponsored by the Westchester County Parks, Friends of Westchester County Parks, radio station 107.1 The Peak, Acme Recording Studios, Inc., Sam Ash Music in White Plains, In-Tune Rehearsal Studios in Ardsley, and Playland Park in Rye.

The concert is free with your paid Playland admission; parking is $4 on Tuesday.

Rain date is Thursday, July 23. - Coasterwarriors
