"Review of Erika DeSocio"

DeSocio sings pop songs with an edge. She wrote or co-wrote all 10 songs on the disc, and the results should be easy on the ears to the generation that appreciates let-it-all-hang-out singing about topics such as love, hurt, friendship and shaping the ideals that make you what you are. - Mark Bialczak, The Syracuse Post Standard

Bio

In 2004, Erika DeSocio released her solo debut album “Wouldn’t You Like to Know” to acclaim by music lovers around the globe. The unique blend of Pop, Rock, Jazz, R&B and Funk transcends traditional categorization. Select tunes from the album have received steady airplay in Syracuse, NY on multiple radio stations. Four years later, Erika has found a lineup of skilled and driven musicians to compliment her unique, ever-changing sound.

Since the release of her CD, Erika has taken her passion for performing on the road. With the help of the musicians on her record, Erika formed The Erika DeSocio band in early 2005. After a brief period of fine-tuning the sound with a changing lineup of musicians, Erika has found the perfect compliment to her powerful, dynamic vocal prowess. The sonic arsenal behind Erika’s singing is an experience all it’s own, with each musician pulling inspiration from a whole world of different musical styles. Yet, the synergism is as precise as can be.

The Erika DeSocio Band has what all other bands are searching for- a product that is as different as each of its members- something that hasn’t been heard before. Each original song is inspired and meaningful, beyond just putting words to music. And when the band does perform cover tunes, they aren’t always mainstream songs that aim to just please the crowd. They are tunes that fit the mood and atmosphere of the band’s particular mindset- from Journey to Josh Kelly- No Doubt to Michael Buble. This kind of diversity has to be heard to be believed.

EDB is a group of veteran musicians in the Central New York scene. All its members have been involved in music from childhood. Playing music is no joke for this group. And they perform to that mantra. The music is real. The sound is real. The band is real.

Area bars such as The Beginnings II, The Dewittshire Tavern, Dinosaur BBQ, Downtown Manhattans, Bull & Bear Pub and Mezzanotte were or are second homes to EDB. Marist College, Mohawk Valley Community College and LeMoyne College also hosted the band for events or performances. EDB has also also participated in various fundraisers for various causes like SyraCruise, Women’s Right to Rock and Relay for Life, to name a few. In February of 2008, Erika, Al and Corey performed with Mark Schulman- famed drummer who has toured with Pink, Foreigner, Velvet Revolver, Cher and many, many other artists!

The Erika DeSocio band is dedicated to the craft and willing to take the risks involved in making music and refusing to conform to the standard set by so many sub-standard artists before them. They are ready to set a new standard. A standard that can offer a revival to the dreary state of “new” music today.
