Bio

It was in 1957 that The Esquires musical group was formed. Gilbert Moorer, his brother Alvis, and his sister Betty were students at North Division High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin when they formed the group at the height of the R & B vocal boom.

The Esquires were truly a family act. In additional to their singing talent, the group’s back up musicians were brothers Perry Moorer on the saxophone and Charles Moorer who played the trumpet. With talent that came quite naturally - their father had sung in a gospel group called the Friendly Five, while their mother played piano - The Esquires generated energy and excitement everywhere they performed and they quickly became one of the hottest vocal groups to hit the music scene.

During their early years in Milwaukee, The Esquires saw many people pass through their lineup while some key members joined and remained, including Sam Pace in 1961. The recent addition of Alexis Moorer (daughter of Alvis) continues the Moorer legacy.

The Esquires are currently taking to the stage some of the very hits that made their sound famous, songs that are still being played on Oldies & R&B radio today.

With their vision set on becoming one of the hottest “Oldies But Goodies” R&B groups in the area, The Esquires are once again capturing the ears and hearts of music lovers everywhere. They are quickly re-establishing themselves with their well-crafted melodies that are sure to generate energy and excitement in their performances that will get everyone on the dance floor!
