Bio

It's easy to assume you've got The EX all figured out when you first meet them--baggy jeans, name brand clothes, shiny chains--typical rappers, right? Don't be fooled. For this Toledo-bred duo, going against the norm is the norm. Their lyrics, self-described as the future of rap, are unique, yet their audiences can easily relate. From hustling in the streets to hustling in college, they have seen and done it all. Setbacks that, for many have proved detrimental, for these two have provided motivation for stronger lyrics and the drive to succeed--not just in music, but in life. Period. Regardless, Mally the Martian and Chiefalone have a way with the mic that is sure to set the game on fire.

Like most, their journey in the music game has not been an easy one, but their relentless efforts to change the rap game as we know it is what keeps them moving forward. Both started rhyming at an early age. For Mally, his love of rap was born at nine, while watching his uncle open for hip-hop legends such as Tupac and Spice 1. For Chief, he doesn't remember a life without music, although age 11 is when he began to recognize his easy way with words. Both will tell you that creating lyrics is like second nature for them, and when put together, a certain synergy is felt that can only be described as magic.

Their sound, remniscent of the 80s, yet still relevant to today's hip-hop lovers, is one of many things that makes this duo a shining star in a sea of duplicitous sound. Mally and Chief got their first real exposure as part of the Swagga Boyz, a group that was conceived after an impromptu dance move caught on like wildfire in a hometown club. The Swagga Boyz quickly became local celebrities and received heavy rotation of their single "The Swagga Song." In no time, the group was signed by Shawn Stockman of Boyz II Men. Mally and Chief, though still members of the Swagga Boyz, went on to form The EX.

The EX is slated to release their highly anticipated mixtape in May 2009, and are currently in the studio working on projects with Bad Boy recording artist Cheri Dennis, and others such as Freeway, Juelz Santana and Paul Cain.
