Glenn Simmons

BandRockCeltic

Solo artist -- singer/songwriter/guitarist/arranger/producer. Some people say there's hints of Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, Bob Seger, James Taylor, Tom Petty, The Doobie Brothers, The Beatles in his songs. Also has original material with a Celtic base.

Biography

Glenn Simmons is from Newfoundland, Canada's most easterly province and the closest point of North America to Europe. Newfoundland has a strong cultural connection to England and Ireland and has obviously been washed over by American music. Anglo-American may best describe Simmons' cultural heritage and his music.
Simmons has been successfully working in Atlantic Canada as a singer/musician/songwriter/producer for 35 years. He's worked on countless records, toured Canada many, many times; been to Europe and has done two tours in Afghanistan performing for the Canadian and NATO troops in Kandahar and Kabul.

More recently he's focussed on his song writing. His material appeared on 4 albums released by his Celtic
/Rock group The Fables over the last 12 years, and at the tender age of 56 he released his first solo album, a Rock/Pop offering called Sweet Vanilla...and Assorted Flavours. It's an eclectic mix of life - pop/rock/jazz/blues - consisting of 11 original songs with well thought out, meaningful lyrics, interesting arrangements, and strong vocals. This album plays cohesively from beginning to end, music lovers won't want to skip a single track for each has its own definite personality -- this is not the same song played 11 times.

The Baby Sleeps

Written By: Glenn Simmons

The Baby Sleeps

Walk me in the dewy evening air
The grass has gently shed a tear
The baby sleeps
By the light of just a fire
The stars ignite desire
The baby sleeps

Breathing just a sigh
Turn the light out from her eyes
Shhhh...
By the firelight we'll prance, we'll dance, we'll diddle-e-i
Under evening sky
The baby sleeps

Saddle up the moon she rises
Waltz me to a tune she glides
And the baby sleeps
Hear the singer wrap the stars around her finger
Go ahead and swing her
The baby sleeps

We can dance until the sun begins to shine
And in the mornin' thank the world
We got a fiddle and a drum
And an old guitar to strum
We'll dance to meet the sun
As the baby sleeps

BRIDGE
While away your worries, While away your woes
Let's spend the night in never-never
Where sleepy baby goes

We can dance until...

Coz She's My Girl

Written By: Glenn Simmons

Coz She’s My Girl

Woah-woah yeah…
Used to be alone
Not much but a TV and a
telephone
Nuthin’ on TV to keep the
bluest days from washing over
me
So much around me could drive
me clear insane
Inclement weather, the
heartache and the pain
But now I’m walkin’ between
those drops of rain
That fall like pearls,
supernatural world
That’s cause she’s my girl

Used to be I’d roam
To find out what was hidden
under every stone
People talked to me
I’d fall back with an answer
automatically
Not much around me could
take me by surprise
Some called for balance, I called it
compromise
Some kinda magic hit me
right between the eyes
And rocked my world
Oysters turned to pearls
That’s cause she’s my girl

Woah-woah she’s my
Yeah yeah she’s my
Woah-yeah she’s my girl
Woah woah she’s my
Yeah yeah she’s my
Woah-yeah, she’s my girl

Not much around me could take
me by surprise
Some called for balance, I
called it compromise
Some kinda magic took me
right between the eyes
And rocked my world
Oysters turn to pearls
That’s cause she’s my girl
Uh-huh, that’s cause she’s my
girl,
uh -huh that’s cause she’s my
girl
Woah-yeah she’s my girl

Christimastime

Written By: Glenn Simmons

Christmastime

Hear the bells begin to chime
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime
At home with your family
All around the Christmas tree
There’s the old rocking chair
It’s always been there
Snow softly falling in the frozen winter air
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime

Carollers singing Christmas rhymes
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime
Children singing joyously
All around the Christmas tree
It’s cheeks of rosy red
And it’s early off to bed
Santa’s flying reindeer
And the magic flying sled
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime

Choir singing hallelujah
Praise to up above
Singing praise to him far up above
For that baby so divine
That’s why it’s Christmastime
It’s cheeks of rosy red
It’s early off to bed
Santa’s flying reindeer
And the magic flying sled
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime
Aren’t you glad it’s Christmastime

It Goes On

Written By: Glenn Simmons

It Goes On
Thought you might do the right thing
Pick up the phone and call
Some word about your leavin
You weren’t like that at all
Ever see a clown
On a morning after
Makeup streaming down
Tears from no one’s laughter
When it all seems gone
It goes on
It goes on

Takes a lot just to keep on
But it keeps goin even tho it makes no sense
It goes on
Gone, the rock that I depended on
And there’s no goin back
And I would rather spend time alone

Cause I didn’t see the writing
She wrote it on the wall
Hit like a bolt of lightning
See all the buildings fall
Tumble to the ground
Thought my eyes were open
Turned it all around
Left a heart all broken
When it all seems gone
It goes on
It goes on
It goes on

I didn’t see the writing
She wrote it on the wall
Hit like a bolt of lightning
Made all the buildings fall
Tumble to the ground
Thought my eyes were open
Turned it all around
Left a heart all broken
When it all seems gone
It goes on
It goes on
Goes on
It goes on
Goes on
