"The Fairweathers - review"

The Fairweathers- Is it punk, no.. Is it pop; god yes. It is. It is pop. no... is it pop? Maybe. yeah. Wait what? huh? I want to give you a hug. Come here, no really. All of The Fairweathers get your asses over here, come get a hug.

This music makes me want to drive down the street with the music cranked and the top of the convertible down. If only I had a convertible as my "getaway car." The vocals are not crispy clean but that slightly heartfelt crunch of indie boys singing. Do yourself a favor, style your hair, grab your Chuck Taylors and meet me at the next Fairweathers show. With lines like "She's not the reason I wake up; She's the reason I take my first breath" These lads will have all the girls tossing their unmentionables towards the stage.

Allow me to introduce you to The Fairweathers: A small-town band with big city appeal. From their pop hooks to their straight-up rockers to their acoustic-driven ballads, The Fairweathers do it all in a way that’s instantly likeable and fun to listen to.

The band formed in mid 2010, jamming together for the first time to headline a breast cancer fundraiser concert in their hometown of Caledonia, Ontario. But that was not the end of The Fairweathers’ story. The three members—Kyle Moning, Denis Spellen, and Jeff Crugnale—found they had an instant bond and that the three of them together could make words jump off the page and rhythms jump off the stage.

Just a few short months after the show, the band went into the studio to record their debut, self-titled five-song E.P. The recording showed off their songs’ depth from the pop punk rocker Just Jenny to the party song A Little Too Late and finishing off with the young-love acoustic ballad Getaway Car.

The Fairweathers will celebrate their CD release with shows in Caledonia, ON on November 25th at The Barrelhouse Club and their adopted hometown of Hamilton, ON on November 30th at The Casbah. In the days leading up to the release, the band stripped down their instruments to play an acoustic show at By The Drop Coffeehouse in Caledonia, ON. The band displayed their diversity with the Denis and Kyle trading in their electric guitars and basses for mandolins and tambourines and their drummer Jeff trading in his kit to show his skills on the acoustic guitar.

The Fairweathers, never content with staying in one place for long, have their eyes on the horizon. The band hasn’t stopped writing through the recording process and is always working on new material to showcase. The future is bright for this young band.

The Fairweathers are:
Kyle Moning (Lead Vocal, Electric Bass, Electric and Acoustic Guitar)
Denis Spellen (Electric Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Background Vocals, Electric Bass)
Jeff Crugnale (Drums, Background Vocals)
