Bio

The fall of summer's hard/soft sound is somewhat like a love-torn pillow fight on a late night frieght train. Their sensitive and haunting lyrics mix with pounding rhythms between the bass and drums, heavy guitar and angry refrains to produce a sonic juxtaposition that's both recognizable and revealing.
The band is made up of bassist /vocalist Mike Calder, drummer Mark Bannock, and guitarist/vocalist Jay Greenway ot form the power trio with their distinct 'screamo' sound since early '04. "It started as a side project," says Greenway, but it didn't take long to realize these are the guys I want be making music with. These are the boys."
'The boys' began writing songs and playing shows a couple months after their first jam and things eslcalated to the point where now, with an 11 track CD produced by Roger Swan at The Warehouse and Greenhouse Studios in Vancouver, The fall of summer's energetic Whistler shows are one of the hottest tickets in North America's premier ski/ snowboard destination.
" Snowboarding is a big part of our lives," says Bannock. "We were snowboarding buds long before we began playing music together." Whistler is the epicenter of Canadian snowboarding and, as established boarders themselves, The fall of summer has deep-rooted ties to the industry. This has resulted in a number of their song being used in snowboard action films, performing in an Oakley eyewear advertisment, as well as yearly headlining gigs at the ten-day Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival, the biggest party of the year in a town known worldwide for its big parties.
With a west to east tour planned, The fall of summer is looking forward to bringing their unique sound to new audiences. "We're three guys with normals lives and problems," says Greenway of his lyrics, "I try to bring this into the song, feeling of anger, joy, jealously. Stuff people can relate to."
"Sometimes it takes having a significant other to really understand what it is to be pissed off," adds Calder, who writes his own high-octane lyrics to accent Greenways softer tones. "Sometimes our songs sound like a screaming match between good and evil, sometimes they're as sweet as new love. People can interpret their own personal experiences into the songs and walk away feeling some added sense of meaning."
In closing, The fall of summer is more than the obvious death/rebirth theme hinted at in their name. They are a rocking band, a close group of friends, and, perhaps most importantly, three guys doing what they love to do and doing it very well.
