The Material: Fallwater Project draws from a wide spectrum of styles, including rock, funk, jazz and soul, creating a signature sound that blends Pink Floyd with Dave Matthews influences. The material is a sort of free-form rock, eclectic in nature and delivered by a top-notch jam band. The arrangements are fresh, unpredictable and mesmerizing. The extended bridges allow for plenty of player showmanship, while heavy rhythms dominate and world beats weave in and out of the songs. This is heady stuff with a hypnotic quality that skillfully fills the void left by Phish.
Musicianship: This group could probably go in any musical direction they want. Expansive, smooth and professional, the players are at the top of their game. Doherty has great vocal control and is a real singer, adding angsty lead vocals and poetic lyrics to give the songs a dark ambience. His words are covered in a dream-like soundscape that’s nearly hallucinogenic. Flowing from jazz improvisations to dance band giddiness, this group could become the de facto leaders of the neo-hippie jam band movement.
Performance: Like most jam bands, Fallwater didn’t put on much of a show. They let their music lead the way. This didn’t seem to adversely affect their audience at all. In fact, most of the crowd seemed to be in their own worlds, dancing, swaying, and generally groovin’ out. In other words, it was very much like a Grateful Dead concert.
Summary: The members of Fallwater Project continue the Dead’s legacy with a bit more style and musical variety. They do the genre proud and offer enough innovations to make it sound new. This act could easily hit the festival circuit and be a success with their devotees caravanning from gig to gig in brightly colored buses.

An eclectic mix of melodic rock, funk, folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass, and soul, the FallWater Project refuses to be easily classified into any one musical genre. Visionary song-writing, innovative improvisition and high-powered live performances fuels the quintet, and an unwavering focus on growth and freedom of expression inspires limitless musical exploration.
FWP began roughly six years ago - Scott Doherty and Vince Laverty met while both were students in Hollywood, CA, having traveled thousands of miles from Maine and Wisconsin, respectively. They began to write songs together, and the duo expanded the lineup with a rhythm section and an accomplished sax player, Paul Pate. FWP then transplanted the rhythm section of a Los Angeles funk/hip-hop band with whom they had met while backstage at the famed Whiskey A Go-Go. Drummer Zack Ryan joined in the summer of 2003, and his brother, bassist Kelsey Ryan, joined a few months later. The resulting chemistry was infectious.
Voted one of Music Connection Magazine's "Hot 100 Unsigned Artists" in 2004, FWP has headlined many famous venues including The House of Blues, The El Rey Theatre, The Roxy Theater, The Whiskey A Go-Go and The Viper Room, and remains committed to sharing their musical vision by expanding the radius to include audiences from across the national spectrum. As the momentum continues to build, the band remains focused on taking the music to new and interesting places. One thing is for certain: the FallWater Project will continue to evolve as it strives to bend the rules of musical comprehension…
