The Farewell Show

The Farewell Show began in early 2006 as a solo project for songwriter/vocalist, Paula Ann Sutor. Sutor had just finished a year long stint with San Franciso glam-punk band, Candy from Strangers, in which she had supported the band on bass, keys and back up vocals. In the year she spent with Candy from Strangers she had recorded and played more than 40 dates on both the east and west coast, including a short stint on the Vans Warped Tour. Sutor felt it was time to concetrate on her own music and record a solo EP.

She enlisted the aid of long time friend, Glen Douglas, on guitar and R. Scott Sutor on keys, drum programming and as co-producer for the recording. She also called on Bay Area drummer, Gina May Montel, for help in the percussion department, and Diggsville vocalist, Karen Mitchell, for back up vocals.

In August of 2006, Sutor was asked to join Candy from Strangers on stage once more. The band was breaking up and had planned a farewell show at the well known San Francisco venue, Bottom of the Hill. It was an emotional evening for all involved and from it Sutor conceived the band name. The Farewell Show's music embodies the moment when you are holding on to what's almost over and at the same time longing for it to be in the past so you can move on.

Although The Farewell Show is still a fledgling band, the band members are not inexperienced players. Glen Douglas has been playing guitar and writing music since 1982. He has a broad range of musical influences such as U2, Chet Baker, Lighting Hopkins, The Who, Mozart and Psychedelic Furs. In 1985, he started his first band, For Strange Americans, which attempted to blend 70s rock, punk and folk-rock. The next year he decided to take another direction and formed a solid alternative rock group called The Rayn. Glen performed and recorded with The Rayn throughout the 80s and 90s touring the Midwest and California.

R. Scott Sutor began his musical career in church and school choirs. He spent three semesters as a vocal performance major in college before coming to the realization that music as a career generally does not pay very well, at which point he dropped out. He continued performing in local bands in Delaware until the early 90's when he relocated to San Francisco where he began a career as a network engineer. With the advent of computer-based home recording, Sutor has had the opportunity to combine his musical and technical backgrounds while honing his recording and production skills. The Farewell Show marks the second major project he has produced in his home studio (Fictitious Studios), following the sound design and scoring for an independent 16mm film release.
