"The Fated - review of Into Reality"

Jessica Porter (Vocals/ American Idol) met Matt Kaner (guitar) in February in 2003 and by October 2003 Alan Shapton (bass). Next added wasJoe Rothfarb (drums) and now you have The Fated.... Into Reality

What is good about Into Reality is it's uniqueness, sure you can find others past and present that sound "like" this but not exactly. In the world of music a unique sound is hard to come by. Of course nothing new is really completely new but Into Reality tries hard. Track 3, Frustrated, stands out on the CD, the guitar is subdued and powerful while at the same time the vocals fit perfect. It is a song explaining the title but without the attitude. Jessica Porter has one of those voices that is pleasing to hear. It is not intense or like Whitney it is more like an old friend. She needs to be a little careful about transferring into falsetto but that is not an uncommon problem with voices like hers and it does not take anything away that time will surely teach her. Matt Kaner is a perfect accompanist to Jessica Porter. Alan Shapton is also a good fit and they all do well together. Track 6, Don't Waste The Night, is a gorgeous wrap of music and The Fated really show that they have their groove together. It will be interesting with the addition of Joe Rathfarb on drums to hear how he adds The Fated in the future. The closing track, Feel You, is a perfectly placed close to a passionate emotional creation. Jessica really shows what she is best at and that is weaving a tale with a voice that draws you in, Matt Kaner helps guide you.

This band really works well together and I hope they avoid the pitfalls of the music industry’s “something to prove” compromises. I eagerly await there next creation with Joe Rothfarb on drums. I think you will enjoy Into Reality and The Fated.

"Don't question the stars, it's The Fated."

It wasn't some fancy billboard ad, nor a cheesy pick up phrase, rather what brought me upon this record was truly fate. Into Reality, The Fated's first full length record is no amateur attempt at breaking into the tough business. Tracks open with a plethora of colorful instrumentals; guitar jamming and rocking drum beats, followed by the appearance of a female vocalist. Each of the eleven tracks is composed of poetic lyrics; lyrics and music written by members of The Fated themselves. A blend of songs for the hopeless romantic, the true acoustic rock lover, and even the mature pop fan, Into Reality is an impressive rookie album; an album with much potential for great success. - from CDbaby.com

Bio

The Fated continue to spread their unique blend of acoustic rock and power pop to audiences all over California. Jessica Porter of American Idol fame fronts The Fated, while never looking back. She has been pushing as a singer since the ripe age of 5, doing talent shows, recitals, county fairs, and using any and every opportunity to showcase her powerful voice.

Her meeting with Matt Kaner in February of 2003 proved to be a life-altering encounter. The duo found themselves with a strong musical chemistry that has since led to the creation of a repertoire of well over 30 songs. The formation of a full band in October of 2003 opened new doors for the group of musicians. In January of 2004 the band was offered a spot on Westlake Audio's Artist Development part of their website in which two songs were showcased. The Fated have played legendary venues such as The Roxy Theatre, The Whisky A-Go-Go, The Knitting Factory, The Hotel Cafe, 14 Below, SOhO , Rock's, and many others.

In March of 2004, Into Relality, a self-produced and self-released 11-track album was released. It was the culmination of over a month and a half of hard work in Oxygen Recording in Montecito , California . The album was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Justin Fox who is now the front man in the Santa Barbara band Tripdavon. The Fated continue to self-produce their music while they showcase new material that is set to be on their forthcoming sophomore release.
