THE FAZE

She Never (Independent)

The Faze could very well be Brisbane’s best answer to trendy synth-driven pop/rock right now that falls comfortably in the vicinity between The Killers and Modest Mouse. Watchers of the Triple J chart will have noticed the lads dominating a bit of late, so it’s only natural (and sensible) the lads would push out a debut single pretty quickly. And a good one it is; ‘She Never’ has all the credentials of a top-shelf rock single. While the lacing of bouncy keys throughout the crunchy guitars see the song firmly entrenched in 2008, the band maintain enough pop sensibility to put forward an infectious track that will lodge itself in your brain for days to come. With a quality debut under their belts, The Faze are definitely ones to watch in 2008. (BP)

Bio

After almost six months away from the gigging scene, The Faze are set to release their follow up EP, ‘No Smoke and Mirrors’ on the 29th of May.

‘No Smoke and Mirrors’ is the third release by The Faze and although the new EP definitely has a darker undertone, the head nod factor still remains.

The E.p was produced and recorded by Magoo (Regurgitator, Operator Please, Gerling) and Brian White (Boat People, Custard) over a period of three months at Brian White’s studio and Magoo’s Applewood Lane Studio property in regional Queensland

The four guys, who are all hereditarily linked to the same tiny island in the Mediterranean, came together after lead singer Steve and life long friend Manny (drums) wandered into a Brisbane record store to buy a cassette to record some of their musical thoughts.

After a brief conversation with the floor salesman, who happened to be Nick (keys), the band formed and soon after played their first gig in November 2006.
Their popularity is snowballing and the quality of the bands they’re supporting or sharing the same stage is also on the rise.

The quality of their music has also not gone unnoticed by the critics.

After being featured as a spot light artist on triple j’s unearthed homepage, their single ‘she never’ shot to number 1 on the unearthed charts. The b sides on that cd “mr sunshine’ and ‘Untied laces’ ranked in at number 3 and 18.

Untied Laces was also nominated for ‘Q Song’ Best Rock Song 2008, along side the Gin Club.

In their first 12 months, The Faze shared stages with the likes of, The Audreys, Silver Sun Pick Ups and Youth Group.

In 2008 The Faze headlined City Romp and the Ekka Race Day at Eagle Farm to a 20 000 strong crowd. They also had the pleasure of playing ‘Greenfest’, the ‘2 high Festival’ and the ‘Valley Fiesta’.

Besides their successful touring and strong and loyal fan base, The Faze were also sought out by a US record label which used their song ‘Fire in the Snow’ on a compilation album, which is available through Amoeba Music, Americas Largest Music Retailer.
