"The Fed Pennies"

The Fed Pennies have a very different vibe with distorted vocals and catchy chords. I would love to check this band out live and see what an audience does. Good solid songs. - Famous Music Publishing

"Almost Famous"

Winners of the Molson Canadian Battle of the bands, the Fed Pennies won the right to perform at the Molson Canadian Canada Day concert at Alderney Landing. "It's gonna be rocking. I can't wait to play on the big, outdoor stage", says guitarist Jake Smith.

"Our music is rock with a trashy sound but I look at music as having a lot of layers. The trash sits on top of the lyrics and catchy melodies. There's a lot of thought that goes into our songs but we disguise it well". - The Daily News

Bio

The Fed Pennies have been breaking through the independent music scene since their 2004 inception. Founders Jake Smith and Aaron Farr, previous ECMA winners with Halifax international touring artists The Jimmy Swift Band, decided it was time to branch off on their own in order to explore another musical direction. With that in mind a new definitive rock sound was born. This new sound can only be described as dirty rock backed with disenchanted lyrics, melodic melodies, and playfully angry bass lines. The group is also influenced by various genres of rock including: punk, metal and alternative, all which they have been heavily involved with in their musical careers.

Based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia The Fed Pennies now consist of Jake Smith (guitar/vocals), Tom Spence (drums) and John Matthews (bass). The group is currently in the studio recording their second full-length album set to be released in early 2008. The group has already released a single from the new album which has already received supporting recognition and radio airplay. "Know it All", the new single, is a collaboration project with prior band mate, musician and friend Aaron Collier (JSB). It is only a small glimpse of what their new material will sound like.

"To Your Senses", the first single that was launched from The Fed Pennies first self-titled album created a platform to reach a wider audience and be heard on various radio stations. Halifax’s Q104, WHMB Waterville Maine, and various campus play lists, would see the band being placed on regular rotation. "To Your Senses" also reached number seven on the internationally syndicated show East Coast Countdown.

Following an intensive two years on the road The Fed Pennies accomplishments include a Q104 Molson Extreme Band Slam win, a showcase at the Canadian Music Week and a 2006 Junofest showcase at the Marquee club in Halifax NS.

Touring heavily throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario has led to the support of a large and loyal fan base making it vital for them to continue creating new music and videos. In December of 2006 The Fed Pennies released "Fast Cars and Dead Bodies", a "Laughing Endlessly" from their first album.
