Bio

The Fed Pennies have been breaking through the independent music scene since their 2004 inception. Founders Jake Smith and Aaron Farr, previous ECMA winners with Halifax international recording artists The Jimmy Swift Band, decided it was time to branch off on their own in order to explore a new musical direction. With that in mind a new definitive rock sound was born.

The Fed Pennies now consist of Jake Smith {guitar, vocals} John Matthews {bass} Jeff Kingsbury{drums} and Mike Keating {guitar} The group is influenced by various genres of rock including: punk, garage and alternative.

"To Your Senses", the first single launched from The Fed Pennies self titled debut cd created a platform to reach a wider audience and can be heard on many radio stations. Halifax's Q104, WHMB Waterville Maine and various campus play lists have added the band to regular rotaion.
Touring heavily throughout Atlantic Canada and Ontario has led to the support of a large and loyal fan base making it vital for them to continue creating new music and videos.
The bands accomplishments include a Molson Canadian Extreme Band Slam win, a showcase at Canadian Music Week and a 2006 Junifest showcase opening for Inward Eye and Silverstein at the Marquee Club in Halifax NS.

On January 28th 2008 The Fed Pennies played the show of a lifetime when they opened for Ozzy Osbourne at the Halifax Metro Centre. From the moment the house lights went down the band captivated the audience with a power house set. Fueled with adrenaline after meeting Ozzy back stage the band delivered a high energy performance that warmed up the crowd of thousands for the "Prince of Darkness" himself.

The Fed Pennies have just re-released their second full length CD called "Brain Disaster"on Sound of Pop Records with distribution through Fontana North
[Universal Music Canada}. The first single "Buzzing in My Head" has been released to commercial radio and is receiving rave reviews. A North American collage radio campaign will begin in January 2010.
"....The Fed Pennies have a very different vibe with distorted vocals and catchy chords. I would love to check this band out live to see what an audience does. Good solid songs". -- Famous Music Publishing UK

".....Great songs, very suitable for radio" ...Mike Bordin -- OzzyFaith No More

The Fed Pennies have yet to be defined to one particular style. Their influences vary as much as their individual tastes including Black Sabbath to the Beatles. Backed with solid melodies, disenchanted lyrics and playfully angry bass lines this band is definitely worth checking out.

The Fed Pennies song “Buzzing in My Head” was recently chosen for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics official video game released by SEGA this week. The song can also be heard in the promotional trailer and is available now in stores and online for XBOX 360 and PS3.
