Bio

The Olivier household has always believed in “fostering your dreams.” Further, there are no age restrictions, as is evidenced by the fact that Cal Olivier and his father, Ray, have been touring the United States for the past year, while also being enrolled as full-time students in music production at the prestigious Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Having performed on his first stage at the age of twelve in Ybor City in Tampa, Florida, Cal released his first solo album last year. Not only did he write both the music and lyrics, he also played a large part in the actual production and designed the CD cover with all its different components.

This album was a compilation of a variety of different genres that included everything from country to reggae, rock to ska, and everything in between. His diversity in songwriting, composing, and unique sound have captured the attention of many leaders in the music industry. Realizing, however, the necessity of making their niche within a specific genre, Cal and Ray have now embarked on a new adventure. Currently living in the mountains of North Carolina, and being huge fans of many types of musical instruments familiar to the area and their individual sounds, it soon became apparent that Folk/Americana was their chosen path. Each member plays a multitude of unique instruments.

While at a concert this year, they met the newest member of their group, Austin Grigery, another gifted musician who shares their passion and devotion to music. Austin was touring as a solo act and sometimes duo with a childhood friend and musician. After considerable thought, he made the decision to join, making this a formidable power trio.

CAL OLIVIER was born in Hershey, Pennsylvania in 1991. He provides lead vocals and plays guitar, mandolin, ukulele, string bass and piano. Cal also writes most of the songs and arrangements.

AUSTIN GRIGERY was born in Farmington, Missouri in 1991, plays guitar, banjo, mandolin and provides additional and harmonizing vocals.

RAY (REO) OLIVIER was born in Manchester, New Hampshire in 1961 and plays a variety of unusual percussion instruments that include cajon, djimbe, congas, bongos and more. He also provides additional vocals.

Cal Olivier & the Fickle Souls have collectively shared the stage with well-known musicians like Tommy Tuton, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Rehab, Steel Pulse, Keller Williams and Blackberry Smoke.

Audiences spanning over several generations have become intrigued by the thought-provoking lyrics, the hint of the old folk ballads that gave birth to music in the US, the modern spin on the musical stylings of yesteryear, and their unique instrumentation. They are very much like modern-day vaudevillians, thus their trademark look. Keep watching for upcoming events and gigs . .
