"Press Quotes"

“The Filter Kings offer up some moments where their promise really shines. Mark displays great instincts for the best traditions of American blues-based guitar playing, for the classic tones and colors of the electric instrument - you can hear influences ranging from Hendrix to modern takes, like Robben Ford, Colin James or even a hint of Chris Isaaks. The band shows that they are perfectly capable of handling their vehicle as it heads down familiar roads - I think the band has the potential to offer something really special”
- Rik Emmett, Founding member of Triumph
Canadian Music Hall of Fame Guitarist / Songrwriter

Led by the virtuosic blues-rock soloing of Mark Krurnowski, The Filter Kings laid down a barn-burner of a record in the form of their full-length self-titled debut. Drummer Cave Wilson and bassist Brian Burd make like Double Trouble throughout, laying down Texas-style grooves at one turn, big bottomed British blues-rock stomps on another. Fans of Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray and mid-70’s Robin Trower will find plenty to love here.
3 1/2 out of 4 stars.

“As a drummer on Buffalo’s music scene for over 25 years I have seen the best and even played with some of the best . There’s one band that I prefer to go see more than any other - that band is The Filter Kings. Mark Krurnowski is truly one of the most gifted guitar players I’ve ever listened to...The Filter Kings are the real deal !!

“ The Filter Kings are a unique band in the long line of incredibly talented musicians that Buffalo is secretly known for. They never stop working at their craft, and it shows.”

The Filter Kings blend rock, blues, surf, plenty of boogie and a splash of funk to ensure that every gig becomes a groove. The band agreed on its name while stranded at a local pub in Buffalo NY during a massive snow storm that crippled the city during November 2000. While Mark & Brian (guitar/vocals and bass respectively) were killing time and avoiding having to shovel snow with some 12 ounce distractions, they agreed the name of the new band was somewhere in the bar, and just had to be located. Lurking in the corner was a dusty old 1970's cigarette machine featuring a "Kool Filter Kings" pack on the front. The guys decided then and there that it was a better choice than One Dollar Beef Jerky.
The Filter Kings have performed countless gigs at venues around the Northeastern U.S. and Canada. In June 2001, guitarist Mark Krurnowski won 2nd place in the North American Rock Guitar competition held during the first annual WNED Buffalo Niagara Guitar Festival. The Filter Kings have performed with Peter Frampton, Blues Traveler, James Cotton, Rik Emmett, Blue Oyster Cult, Rick Springfield, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Average White Band, April Wine, Kim Mitchell, Marcia Ball and Omar & The Howlers.
The band is currently hard at work promoting their debut CD which features eleven original tracks - if you’re a fan of hot-rodded blues injected with plenty of spicy guitar, then you’ll dig The Filter Kings!! WBEN’s Bob Stilson calls The Filter Kings, “a soulful blues explosion that will capture the attention of an audience every time.”
