Bio
First Speakers began in 2005, when three neighbourhood friends took up electric guitars and started songwriting. Known then as Camel Tones, they visited open mics across the Toronto and eventually a drummer rolled down the hill uniting them as a band. In 2009 they played shows at Rancho Relaxo, Queen City Yacht Club, and the El Mocambo, releasing a three song demo in October. In 2010, they played The Horseshoe, Sound Academy, The Hideout, but spent a large majority of the year producing their self-titled debut EP, released in November.
They sound like/are influenced by The Beatles, The Doors, Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, The Band, Chuck Berry, Grateful Dead, The Arcade Fire, as well as myriad of distinguished Motown champions.
Beginning in February 2011, they perform as the house band at The Detour in Toronto's Kensington Market every Tuesday night at 10 pm and continue to spread their music, original rock of the old and new.
