The Fluorescent

At age 13, Matt plunged into his musical venture by forming a nationally touring punk band. Eight years of performing, songwriting, and building custom electronic instruments fueled his infatuation with chiptunes, and electronic music. Meanwhile, Matt's first crush, Carolyn, frustrated her piano teacher with her propensity to only practice her own compositions. As a teen, she channeled her creativity into performing and writing musicals. If Matt wrote alone--it would all be nerdy Nintendo music. If it were just Carolyn--everything would be a piano ballad. Thankfully, these friends since birth married and formed formed The Fluorescent in 2011. This Kansas City electronic pop band create their signature sound by programming a custom Game Boy cartridge as each song's foundation, layering modern synthesizers and vocals to build upon the Game Boy's vintage sound. This musical alchemy produces danceable beats, catchy melodies, strong harmonies, keytar riffs, and a show you've never seen before!
