Deeply rooted in musical tradition, the Flying Dogs have spent a lifetime absorbing the essence of all that is and synthesizing a unique vision of what it could be. With early forays into public performance beginning in 1966 as “The Grapes of Wrath” then “Thyself Only” then “Asylum” then “The Dick Brothers Band” then “The Weasels”, the Flying Dogs finally appeared on Earth in 1974 guided by our spiritual leader Roy. Touching down in Westfield NJ, the Flying Dogs quickly took up residence in that small rich town and formed their own rock and roll band. They followed their hearts and souls and developed their own vision of the American Dream, which is still alive today.

Recently returning from a 30+ year sabbatical on our home planet Jupiter, original Flying Dogs Al Grigg and Tristram visited the local pound and have once again collected a great group of musicians and are continuing to define and redefine our own brand of music. Once again, distilling even more the juice that is called blues, rock, rockabilly, and just about any other brand of spirit you can imagine.

The Flying Dogs recently released some fresh material straight from Jupiter. The CD, recorded at the Dogs high-pressure atmospheric Red Spot studio on Jupiter, features some great spatial sonic sound served soulfully by the Flying Dogs. Our spiritual advisor Roy guided the entire experience, of course. Titled “Return from Jupiter”, the CD was released on Jovian Records in July 2010.

Jovian Records? Sure, a label founded by the Flying Dogs in 1975 and still owned and operated by the Flying Dogs. One of the first indie labels actually! The Flying Dogs first LP was released on Jovian Records in 1975 – “American Dream”. Still for sale today – if you can find a copy! A new CD, currently being written and recorded, will be released in mid 2011. The Flying Dogs are very excited about this project – and our audience has provided a lot of great input and feedback so far. Music for the people, by the people, and of the people.

Today, the band performs a program titled “Great Songs…Great Songwriters” that brings the listener a view of the musical world from the top to the bottom, from left to right, inside and out, backwards and forwards. Our music and your music!
