Bio

The folding kind’s unique sound blends heartfelt male and female vocals with melodic acoustic originals, drawing on the band’s eclectic tastes in music, for a folk-pop sound.

Formed on the Gold Coast and now based in Brisbane, the folding kind perform regularly at The Village Markets, Burleigh and the West End Twilight Markets, Brisbane.

Guitarist and vocalist, Trent and vocalist and pianist, Sarah formed a song writing and creative workshop shortly after meeting at a friend’s wedding, whilst Louis, the band’s percussionist, has collaborated with Sarah on some of her previous projects.

“I’ve been writing, recording and performing for the past 10 years and released a solo independent album a few years ago, which Louis helped out with,” Sarah said.

“Sarah and I started jamming together in 2010 and shortly after, Louis got involved and helped out with finishing ‘Recipes & Symphonies’, bringing along his cajon to complete our sound,” Trent said.

“We’ve written a whole album’s worth of songs together and have recorded five for our first EP, with two tracks, including ‘Recipes & Symphonies’ available on triplejunearthed. Our songs are mostly about heartbreak and romance,” Louis said.

“Each one is a different snapshot of being in relationship with people. Songs of love and loss that most people can relate to,” Trent said.

The five originals included on the folding kind’s EP are:
Sometimes
Two Worlds Collide
Underground
Recipes & Symphonies
Southern Sky

“We each have different tastes in music and are inspired by a wide range of artists,” Sarah said.

“I love rhythm and blues greats Donny Hathaway, Sam Cooke and Bill Withers. Louis’ inspired by Sting, David Gray and Ben Lee, while Trent’s influenced by a lot of current popular music,” she said.

“At the moment we’re listening to Ed Sheeran, Black Keys, Fleet Foxes, Civil Wars and Passenger,” Trent said.

The folding kind’s live sound is evident in their EP, with intimate vocals accompanying paired back acoustic instruments.

“When performing live, we really appreciate and enjoy seeing that people have stopped to listen and are enjoying our original music,” Trent said.

“We perform mainly originals, with a few covers thrown in and enjoy letting the crowd be involved in singing and dancing, as well as some friendly banter between us in the band,” Sarah said.
