Bio

The Folk Collection is a three-part-harmony folk trio, plus bassman, based in Southern California. We sing several original songs during each show, but out focus is in presenting the great folk tunes of the past within a fun environment that encourages our audiences to clap, hum and sing along with us. Our audiences are always multigenerational.

Over the past two years, we have played such venues as Russ & Julies House Concerts, Noble House Concerts in Van Nuys (3 times), Ken and Maries House Concert in West LA, GarageMaHall and Acoustic Routes in Las Vegas, and California Traditional Music Society in Encino (twice); San Diego Folk Heritage Society (twice); Bouldevard Music in Culver City (sold out twice - in fact, Gary Mandell there says he turned away about 25 people, which he has never done before); Bob Stanes Coffee Gallery Backstage (3 times); the venerable Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse in Berkeley; Sutter Creek (CA) Theater; and outdoor summer civic concerts for thousands of people, such as City of Yucca Valley, Concerts by the Sea in Oxnard, Calimesa California Cultural and Performing Arts Association, City of San Marcus; and, this past April, we were the first folk act to play at The World Theater performing arts center on the campus of Cal State University Monterey Bay.

Here are some venue reviews about us:

It has been our great pleasure to have presented The Folk Collection to our multi-generational audiences, and we look forward to their future visits...The members of this harmonious trio...bring new life to the best of American folk music and ... offer audiences a uniquely entertaining and enlightening musical experience. --Steve Baker, Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, Berkeley, and winner of FAR-West, Best of the West Presenter Award.

What a wonderful night!... Your professionalism was apparent from the first song...I cant recall any other performer that gets the audience involved as much as you do. --Chris Warber, California Traditional Music Society.

More htan one attendee told us afterward that [your concert] was among the best shows weve hosted and that they couldnt remember the last time they had so much fun. -- Russ and Julies House Concerts

Your show was upbeat, soulful and captured the true spirit of the 60s and 70s while maintaining a freshness and contemporary feeling that made everyone feel good. --Phil Esparza, CSU Monterey Bay World Theater

The enthusiasm and enjoyment you displayed during your show was infectious; everybody had a great time laughing at your stories and jokes, listening and singing along. --Cathy Cronin, City of San Marcos CA

Both young and old alike enjoyed your show. I have rarely seen an artist who has the ability to reach out to all ages, as you did. --Brian M Kendall, City of Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs

The positive responses and joy that people expressed about the evening were most gratifying to us. --Richard and Betty Stewart, GarageMaHall, Las Vegas

At the conclusion of the concert a standing ovation was given to the performers, the length of which has never been matched at Old Town Music Hall. --Bill Field, Old Town Music Hall, El Segundo CA

We love to leave em smiling and humming a folk tune.
